I know thats not the same thing because the object is much smaller and far but...
sun - earth distance is about 150 000 000 km
angular diameter = 0,53
sun diametre = X
X =150000000(tan 0,53)
X=1387576 km in fact the sun diameter is 1392000 km

Hi there OP .. just wondering what your background is in - Physics? Math?

I majored in college physics (a loonnng time ago), and wouldn't have been able to calculate the size based upon your formula. Heck, I never even saw that formula before!

hi friend i study fisic and math (sorry for bad english i'm ita. the formula is diameter = 2 distance earth-object (tan angular diameter/2) than : diameter = diastance (tan angular diameter )

This size makes more sense. Cause honestly seeing something 3miles across over millions of miles away from 18 Inch telescope is so far a stretch of the imagination it's uncanny.

This object must be over 3km to say the least. If you look for Elenin however it isn't where it is supposed to be. That should give us a new insight.

I am stating that the incoming trajectory isn't accurate and neither are the positions of the plant's.

OP's formula is correct (based on trig definition of tan function).. if the data is correct, it is very big, over 3000 miles!

Then it be called planet Elenin.

That is the size of the coma, a very tenuous gas cloud. The actual nucleus is far smaller, on the order of a couple o9f kilometers.

If that thing hits earth, then the folks with their deep underground bases are going to look real stupid.

This has been discussed in a number of threads. Problem is, everyone is distracted by the idea that it might hit the earth, something we know it will not do, that very few are looking at the real danger.

hi frined ....sorry bro. but this isnt the size of the coma ......the zize of the coma is obut 10 time bigger of the object.....the coma has about 8 arcsec. of diameter ....the object has about 1-2 arc second of diameter :)

If the diameter of 3000 miles is true then it's larger than the moon (which is 2160 miles in diameter).
