WOW! I just noticed the official Sunspot Number is 272! I'm almost certain this is a new high for Cycle 24.

Flares are cracklin' all over now (except big '99 is quiet).

Good catch, MM, we were expecting some coronal hole winds and the Eskimos are waiting for some auroras.

From NOAA-Geospace .Forecast...
The geomagnetic field is expected to be at quiet to active levels on day
1 (16 Nov) and quiet to unsettled levels on days 2-3 (17-18 Nov) due to
CH HSS effects.

Solar Activity .24 hr Summary...
Solar activity was at moderate levels due to two M1 flares at 16/0453
UTC and 16/0749 UTC from Region 1900 (S19W35, Dac/beta). Region 1900
exhibited umbral separation and slight decay in its trailing spots.
Slight growth was observed in the northern area of Region 1893 (S13W32,
Dkc/beta-delta). Region 1899 (N06E30, Dko/beta-gamma) had slight decay
in its smaller trailing spots. Slight growth was observed in Regions
1897 (S20E03, Fac/beta-gamma-delta) and 1902 (N20W13, Dso/beta). The
rest of the spotted regions were either stable or in decay. No
Earth-directed coronal mass ejections were observed during the period.

Not too strange considering it's a one-man operation (I'm pretty sure Alvestad works alone). Everybody needs a day off sometimes. Thanks for the link because I meant to look at the SS# graph earlier. It seems the NOAA SS Number has only dipped below 100 twice since Oct. 8th.....impressive. However, I think the current number of 272 is somewhat inflated. We've seen more and bigger sunspot groups than this before. I think the Sunspot Number metric is a failed idea for measurement of solar activity. I prefer the 10.7cm Flux, it's much less subjective than chimps counting dots, LOL.

Is possible that from the center of main sunspot AR11899 grow an inverse polarity? because I never have saw it.

Agreed. A very interesting find there! I've never seen anything like it either. The big spot shows no visible signs of cleaving or anything. I would tend to think that the opposite polarity in such an intense field would cause a nasty short-circuit. AR1899 has gone into a coma today, but we'll have to keep a close eye on that one.

That tiny region 1900, besides producing 2 M-flares, has been churning out flares with regularity. It has been responsible for 8 of the last 10 C-flares, while his big brother 1893 has been very quiet.

Howdy hi, thanks for the post. It's not really relevant to this sunspot, but I bookmarked it because eventually we'll start seeing 'backward sunspots'. Lots of good info there, but it's still funny how they hyped Cycle 24 as a potentially hyper-active one. A big NASA fail on that prediction, lol. Thanks again for the link!
