Hugh M Eye User ID: 1554367 United States 09/17/2011 07:41 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Look at HAARP magnetometer graphs. There's a bright spot on all three readings from 9/16 @ 20:00. I was wondering if this was the initial shock pulse from CME or an unrelated anomaly. Anyone here understand these? Quoting: Hugh M Eye [link to 137.229.36.30] Those spots are from the CME making it through the magnetosphere. Generally you;ll see this when the Bz drops down, but it can happen otherwise too. Read the information at the top of the graph. It gives you an date to go to for an example of disturbance on the magnetometer graph. [link to 137.229.36.30] Thanks, Oracle! It is somewhat similar to Sept2004 pulsation example. It was before the CME hit us so I was just wondering if it was the pre-storm shockwave. Magnetic field lines still funky. The flare region is currently close to the central meridian. At the moment of writing, no SOHO/LASCO data is available but from STEREO-A/COR2 data, we can confirm the eruption of an Earth-directed CME with a speed around 400 km/s. Further analysis will follow as more data becomes available. [link to www.sidc.be] |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1297814 Germany 09/19/2011 08:49 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Solar Flares Could Unleash Nuclear Chaos On Planet Earth by spaceweathermonitor on 2011/09/19 "Forget about the 2012 Mayan calendar, comet Elenin or the Rapture. The real threat to human civilization is far more mundane, and it’s right in front of our noses. If Fukushima has taught us anything, it’s that just one runaway meltdown of fissionable nuclear material can have wide-ranging and potentially devastating consequences for life on Earth. To date, Fukushima has already released 168 times the total radiation released from the Hiroshima nuclear bomb detonated in 1945, and the Fukushima catastrophe is now undeniably the worst nuclear disaster in the history of human civilization. But what if human civilization faced a far greater threat than a single tsunami destroying a nuclear power facility? What if a global tidal wave could destroy the power generating capacities of all the world’s power plants, all at once?...." ReadMore: [link to spaceweathermonitor.com] |

Further analysis will follow as more data becomes available. [link to www.sidc.be] "With plenty of active regions on the solar disk, we can expect more flaring activity at C-level, with a low chance of an M-flare. Especially Catania regions 72, 73 and 74 (respectively NOAA AR 1295, 1298 and 1296), which are close to the central meridian, are likely to produce more C-class flares. The largest flare observed this morning was a C6.2 flare, peaking at 07:37 UT. It originated from Catania region 75 (NOAA AR 1296). An associated radio burst was detected in Humain. As reported, the C3.8 flare, peaking at 10:57 UT yesterday, was associated with a CME. This CME came into the SOHO/LASCO field of view at 12:42 UT and turned out to be not earth-directed. STEREO-a/COR2 images of this morning suggested an earth-directed CME around 6:54 UT. Its speed, estimated from the STEREO data, lies around 430 km/s. However, as new data from PROBA2/SWAP and SOHO/LASCO becomes available, this CME seems to originate from NOAA AR 1301 on the east limb. As a result, we do not expect this CME to reach Earth. The solar wind has a moderate speed, currently around 440 km/s. The interplanetary magnetic field has a total strength of ~ 6nT. Current geomagnetic conditions are quiet and we expect them to remain so in the coming days." [link to www.sidc.be] |

Some are producers of intense Gamma Rays. More info in these papers... [link to adsabs.harvard.edu] [link to astronomy.ege.edu.tr] [link to solar.physics.montana.edu] |
