Hi allgrouphug, back in buisness...much to read

Sunspot Update:

One new group rotated into view over the north-east limb and another new group emerged rapidly from about 1800z on the north-east quadrant

:newspotsoct30:
[link to www.solarham.com]

Five C class solar flares took place yesterday, two from the north-east limb. Further C class solar flares are expected today

NewRegionsOverview:
[link to www.solarham.com]

INFO FROM SIDC - RWC BELGIUM Sun Oct 30 2011, 1234 UT

The Sun has produced four small C-flares in the last 24 hours. C-flares are probable within the next 48 hours, with a slight chance for an M-flare, especially from NOAA regions 11330, 11324 and an unnumbered region displaying fast flux emergence at about E40N12.

ACE solar wind data indicate that a sector boundary crossing occurred around 21h UT on October 29. The ACE instruments also observed a small shock in the solar wind at 08:55 UT on October 30. The solar wind jumped from 282 to 302 km/s, and the interplanetary magnetic field strength (IMF) went from 3 to 5 nT. This shock is probably linked to the arrival of one or more of the CMEs first seen by LASCO C2 around October 26, 10h UT; October 27, 12h UT; and October 28, 21h UT. Currently, solar wind speed and the IMF are still rising. Active geomagnetic conditions are expected on the second half of October 30, with a chance for a minor geomagnetic storm. Quiet geomagnetic conditions are likely for October 31 and November 1.

We may be at the beginning of something incoming:

 Quoting: Gabriel

Yep..I think you are correct : )

All the Graphs are starting to plot higher and the Field Lines look like they are being pulled toward an Incoming..

Should see spaghetti in the Field Lines soon.
 Quoting: Spittin'Cesium

A weak solar wind shock was observed at 09:52 UTC at ACE

This could be the arrival of the CME observed on October 27 Unsettled to active conditions are possible for the remainder of the day

this is more than likely the front shock of the incoming CME due to hit today

it is over due according to the calculated arrival time

Event Issue Date: 2011-10-26 16:50:56.0 GMT
CME Arrival Time: 2011-10-30 02:23:14.0 GMT
Arival Time Confidence Level: ± 6 hours
Disturbance Duration: 11 hours
Disturbance Duration Confidence Level: ± 8 hours
Magnetopause Standoff Distance: 6.5 Re

they had a + - 6hr window on there arrival time of 02:23 UTC
adding 6hrs it would be 08:23 UTC
and it's now 16:54 UTC

Howdy, Tom, we've missed you lately. Those graphs are very odd-maybe they gave up predicting on weekends, lol. I found a neat NASA data center that makes it easy to check on different charts, images, CMEs,etc.

And there's a flare-tracker/browser at Berkely (which stopped working in realtime today)-you can go to any date to view x-ray flux and spectrograph data. You can customize some of the parameters. Fun!

Scientists find link between magnetic reversal and tectonic plate movements

October 30, 2011 – The Earth’s magnetic field is produced by the flow of liquid iron within its core, three thousand kilometers below our feet. What made researchers think of a link between plate tectonics and the magnetic field? The discovery that convective liquid iron flows play a role in magnetic reversals: experiments and modeling work carried out over the last five years have in fact shown that a reversal occurs when the movements of molten metal are no longer symmetric with respect to the equatorial plane....

thought i would let all you know that im in the middle of moving. We found a new place with no stairs
with my injury it takes forever and a day to get helped up and down a full flight of stairs. We have needed to move for a long time, this just forces us to stop putting it off ^^
im really excited about this move, but it does mean im not on as much as i would like
I do still pop in all through the day to make sure im to late with any events

this is what i see now
the Xray flux has now risen to a much higher background flux

Good luck with your new home, NINzrez!hf The fast-growing active region in the northeast (nearing mid-disk) has been dubbed 11334-though it looks like two regions to me. It's already produced 2 or 3 C-flares. There is still an un-numbered region near the east limb which has also produced C-flares.

The new place without stairs should really help. I am handicapped and spend much time in an electric wheelchair to get around. Ten years ago we moved into a completely handicapped accessible home. Not even one step inside and not even one step to get into the house either. It made an incredible difference to me. I hope the same for you.
