[link to www.startribune.com] Map of Record high temps for the USA, Jan 5 2012 [link to mapcenter.hamweather.com] and today (friday) is much warmer in most places with new record highs to be set 115 record highs set Thursday around the USA. Source: NBC News. The high temp for where i live in southeast michigan today was 55f it feels like the beginning of spring outside not just record highs: extremes "Overnight, record lows were set in Alma at 19 degrees (breaking record of 20 set in 2001) and Gainesville, 20 degrees (breaking record of 22 set in 1900). Record lows were tied in Jacksonville, 22 degrees (set in 1887), Tallahassee, 18 degrees (set in 1928), and Appalachicola, 26 degrees (set in 2010)." via : [link to news.blogs.cnn.com] betcha that if we could map the energy density held in the Earth's field, that the peaks would correspond to high temp locations. like ripples on the surface of a lake. was lookin' for examples in fuckyeahfluiddynamics but got caught up in some bitchen phenomenon. here's a couple. It is the cme Enlil animation. I see the dates from 12-25 thru 1-1. Maybe I am just not seeing the proper button or link or whatever to see an up to date animation. This happened to me on the previous update too. It was outdated by about a week before I saw an updated animation. Please let me know if you see it, as I do or if you see an updated version. Thanks so much!! Quoting: shenue [link to www.swpc.noaa.gov] hi shenue try this: [link to www.swpc.noaa.gov] |

The largest event of the period was a C2/Sf at 07/0007Z from Region 1392 (S24W73). Region 1392 and 1393 (N16W30) both showed growth in areal coverage and magnetic complexity. A CME was observed in LASCO C2 imagery around 06/2125Z. After analysis, this CME appears to a farsided event, thus not Earth directed. [link to www.spaceref.com] |

I do use the one there on your NASA link. But it runs so fast that I usually have to view it about 10 times before I can see all the information I want. I recently read an article that was a link off of an other thread that stated we had "holes" or "tears" in the magnetic sheild around the planet. I didn't have time to save it, due to the precarious nature of my generator powered system, but I can't find it now to ask you guys if this is for real or not. Has anyone heard about this? Could this be a contributing factor in the strange weather everyone is having? |

I think this is the biggest flare of 2012 so far. [link to www.lmsal.com] The following C2.9 is from region 1393......... [link to halpha.nso.edu] SOHO Cor2 shows a nice CME in SE. Since it's on the wrong side of the sun from the flare, there must be something else happening simultaneously. [link to sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov] |

| Anonymous Coward User ID: 1297814 01/08/2012 07:32 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Solar activity is at eruptive levels and gradually increasing, with the GOES X-ray flux background close to C level. More than seven C flares were observed within the last 24 hours. Several more C flares are expected within the next 24 hours, with a chance for an M flare, especially from NOAA regions 11393 and 11388. Solar wind velocities measured by ACE have been mainly between 420 and 460 km/s in the last 24 hours, with the IMF around 5 nT. Geomagnetic conditions have been quiet in this period, and are expected to be predominantly quiet on January 8 and 10. On January 9, a glancing blow is possible from the CME first observed by COR2 A on January 5, 14:24 UT, in which case active geomagnetic levels are expected. [link to sidc.oma.be] |
