Flare came from 2027 in the east, won't be dead earth directed, maybe glancing blow if a CME came with it

No it isn't! It's saved our asses so many times (except for the times it hasn't).

The M6.5 looks like an LDE...I expect a large CME produced. I agree with Lucy that it will not be Earth-directed, but if it's big enough we may see a strong 'glancing blow', We'll know more in a few hours.

On the GONG it looks like a filament tried to leave nervously, just prior to the flare

I don't know.....our friend and fellow Suntard from Venezuela was always on-topic with good science info. However, his final post was political and concerned the growing post-Chavez counter-revolutionary unrest presently sweeping his country. That was a few weeks ago and I haven't seen him here since. I was just praying that he wasn't rounded-up for torture or injured in some riot. Maybe he's just banned from the internet or something. I just hope he's safe and sound...I wish I knew more. It's scary to think that maybe a post on GLP could land somebody in the gulag.

Good eye, Lucy! I saw the same thing. That filament eruption seemed to destabilize the big Alpha spot....and Kaboom!

A huge, very fast double-CME was produced by the M6 flare. Had this been squarely aimed at Earth it would have surely fried some satellites. I believe it has some Earth-directed streams though.

Is it normal for 10 hours to pass between a flare and a return to baseline levels of activity? It was only a M6+ ... what gives?

And have any of the CMEs arrived yet? I thought they were due yesterday. Or are they ...
