SOLAR WIND, INCOMING: During solar minimum, long-lasting holes open in the sun's atmosphere, releasing streams of solar wind into space.

One of those holes is facing Earth now, and it's a big one: [link to spaceweather.com]

We've seen this hole before. It opened in the summer of 2018 and has been spinning around as the sun rotates, lashing Earth with solar wind approximately once a month. The last time our planet felt its gaseous emissions, on Dec. 27-28, 2018, Alaska skies exploded in green and "the best auroras of the season" were observed over Iceland.

The solar wind will return on Jan. 31st or (more likely) Feb. 1st, bringing with it a chance of G1-glass geomagnetic storms. Arctic sky watchers should be alert for auroras. Visibility should be good as the waning crescent Moon provides dark skies for both photography and naked-eye observing.

A G1 Watch is now in effect for both the 31 January and 1 February UTC days due to likely influences associated with a negative polarity coronal hole high speed stream (CH HSS). Current solar wind conditions indicate an approaching co-rotating interaction region ahead of the CH HSS - sooner than originally anticipated. Meanwhile, Region 2733 continued production of C-class flares over the past 24 hours; despite its apparent weakening as it rotates towards the west limb. The active region produced a C5 flare at 30/0611 UTC. Flare probabilities for C-class activity were raised for today (30 Jan) to a "Chance". The region begins rotating beyond the limb today and will be beyond Earth facing flare chances by 1 February.

We have entered fast solar wind from the negative-polarity coronal holes, and the conditions are favorable for a #solarstorm. However, it would be G1 (Kp=5), rather than Kp=7, although regional stronger disturbances are possible. @Blackprojects @ADphotography24 @chunder10

SOLAR WIND STORM: Earth is entering a stream of high-speed solar wind, and this is causing G1-class geomagnetic storms around the poles. First contact with the gaseous material on Jan. 31st sparked bright auroras around the Arctic Circle.

In Abisko, Sweden, Chad Blakely of Lights over Lapland witnessed this outburst of green: [link to spaceweathergallery.com]

"I thought the back of my camera was going to explode!" says Blakely. "The auroras and light pillars started as soon as the sun went down. Our guests from the US, UK and Australia were treated to one of the finest displays of the season."

For a time, the auroras were visible to the naked eye through the city lights of Edinburgh, Scotland--a truly intense display.

NOAA forecasters say that the storm could intensify to G2-class on Feb. 1st as Earth moves deeper into the stream of solar wind. The gaseous material is flowing from an unusually wide hole in the sun's atmosphere. This means we could feel its influence for some days to come, possibly until Feb. 3rd.

Goodbye Bright Flares, Hello Dark Hole: Solar Storm Forecast 01-31-2019

This week the Sun comes out of hibernation with a fast growing active region and a large coronal hole rotating into Earth view. Although the region (2733) never launched any Earth-directed solar storms, it nevertheless fired off a few C-class flares that no doubt made the HF radio bands a bit noisy. The flares may have also made GPS a bit glitchy around the dawn-dusk terminators. However, this bright active region has also boosted the solar flux back into the marginal range for radio propagation. As we say goodbye to region 2733 as it rotates to the Sun's backside, we say hello to the large coronal hole that is starting to rotate into the Earth-strike zone. Aurora photographers, especially at high latitudes should get a great show over the next few days, possibly in through the weekend. Photographers at mid-latitudes, may not be quite as lucky, but there might be a chance for some sporadic aurora starting late Thursday and into Friday. A researcher recently published a video, “Earth Turns Into A Comet,” where he puts forth the theory that these high speed wind events within Earth's magnetosphere is the Earth expelling a build up energy into its tail-stream, the magnetotail.

I've been watching these daily events for almost a month now and what I am seeing would suggest that.

He connected the Sun's recent flashing that began four months ago with the Earth's recent daily expulsion of energy that began almost a month ago. These I believe are both connected by the increase of strength in their electromagnetic connection to and an overload of a range of highly charged radioactive particles from Nemesis, the Sun's binary twin, a highly magnetic brown dwarf star that exists in the infrared light spectrum.

The Earth's sudden and violent expulsion of a build of energy would explain the recent transformer explosions in New York, Louisiana, Tennessee, Brazil, Mexico and Venezuela along with the power grid going down to millions of people in Central America 13 days ago.

And the report two weeks ago that the magnetic north pole shift is occurring faster than expected prompting an update to the world navigation systems a year earlier than expected points to an ever nearing proximity of this dark star. The planet is suffering a multitude of signs of this fact.

The atmospheric compression that is taking place is distorting the Earth's jet streams. This is why we are seeing the unprecedented extreme and bizarre weather all over the world. This is coming from space. Space weather is what dictates Earth weather.

One question that remains is why is this happening on a daily 24 hour cycle? One theory that could be a possibility is that the planet has undergone an inner transformation within its core where the Earth is most easily able to release the bulk of this energy into its magnetotail during its daily axial realignment with this newly formed area.

But, what's happening is global. It's coming off the whole entire planet hundreds of thousands of miles into space. From top to bottom. What's happening is huge.

February 1, 2019. Wind speeds surrounding Earth's magnetic field broke 1000 km/s again at 1206 km/s for approximately 16 minutes on 2/1/2019 at 00:39:05 UTC after more extreme turbulence in Earth's magnetotail that began 3 1/2 hours earlier.

Yesterday they reached into the 900's and 700's the day prior with some relative calm the day before.

But, we can add today to the string of 25 days of breaking 1000 km/s since January 5th

Solar winds only reached 550 km/s. Earth's magnetospause continues to buckle from the extreme pressure.

ARCTIC DREAM SKY: Auroras are dancing around the Arctic Circle on Feb. 1st as Earth moves deeper into a stream of fast-moving solar wind. Observers in Norway and Sweden are calling the display "the best of the season" and perhaps "the best in years."

This stream of solar wind is flowing from an unusually wide hole in the sun's atmosphere. It arrived during the late hours of Jan. 31st, and Earth will probably be inside the stream for another 24 to 48 hours. NOAA forecasters say there is a chance of G1-class geomagnetic storms with isolated periods of G2-class storming on Feb. 1st. followed by lesser activity on Feb. 2nd and 3rd.
