SUNSPOT AR2775: A new sunspot is growing in the sun's southern hemisphere. Numbered AR2775, it is inset in this magnetic map of the sun's surface from NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory: [ link to www.spaceweather.com (secure)] The +/- magnetic polarity of AR2775 marks it as a member of new Solar Cycle 25. About half a dozen dark cores, each about the size of the Moon, are scattered across 75,000 km of solar terrain, making AR2775 a small sunspot. Only if it continues to grow will it pose a threat for significant flares. Stay tuned. [ link to www.spaceweather.com (secure)]
