I just love it when the pious can come together and beat the holy crap outta each other as to who really is a "christian".

A lot of gringo Texans have historically been Catholic - so I guess that means a big ol' civil war might be brewin' in the Lone Star state, never mind the rest of the Onion.

It's not about that AC. It's that many are following a MAN who claims to be IN PLACE of Christ. That's just not possible.
 Quoting: TXGal4Truth

In persona Christi applies to an ordained Catholic priest,
consecrated to Our Lord not just the Holy Father.

As at the Last Supper, Jesus changed the bread and wine
into His body and blood, so does every Catholic priest since
the Apostles.

You’ve probably heard the saying “in persona Christi” applied to priests. It’s a Latin phrase that very nicely sums up who and what a priest is. Translated, it means “in the person of Christ.” How that’s understood makes all the difference in the world.

For some, “in persona Christi” means that the priest merely represents Jesus before the people. Others believe it means that the priest simply performs actions that are Christ-like. The true meaning of the phrase, however, is far deeper than we can imagine without the gift of faith. For it means nothing less than that a priest, in a certain metaphysical sense, is Jesus.

Don’t take that to mean that when a man is ordained he somehow becomes divine like our Lord. No, as any priest will tell you, he retains his humanity just like the rest of us – complete with the inclination toward sin that afflicts us all.

Rather, at his ordination, a man’s soul is mystically transformed and given a permanent mark – also called a “character” – that empowers him to do for the People of God what ultimately only Jesus can do, most notably change ordinary bread and wine into the Lord’s body and blood, and forgive our sins in the Sacrament of Confession.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1288597

How does the pope have the power to do this? Confession? Only GOD himself can forgive sins...not man on earth.

You friend, have taken the mark.

Well, if your religion is using the bible in any way, then you have a problem if you seek to attack the very church that wrote it. Constantine I convened the Council of Nicaea to determine what goes in and what stays out of the book of christianity. Although he didn't sit in on the actual food fights - let's get real and admit that as the funder and a person who can chop any of their heads off- he determined the essentials of what he wanted in or out.

And what kind of person was this Constantine? Well, let's put it this way: He decided he had way too much sinning to do to baptize his sleazy self while relatively young and while there were so many atrocities out there yet to do, instead waiting until he was safely on his deathbed - in which case he could then get baptized, yelling "All-y all-y in come free" to beat the raps on all his murders, rapes and slaughters - and then die a "holy" emperor.

JFC, and christians all accept this book as they beat each other over the head with it, accusing others of not being christian.

You just CAN'T make this stuff up.

TXGal is a 7th Day Adventist! We're
saints here already and there's no one in Heaven but God
and the angels. :ange13:

Silly, where did the Bible come from...oooh, that
evil Catholic Church.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1288597

The scriptures weren't written by any Catholic. Not a one. That is a fact.

And I guess that Jesus was a 7th Day Adventist too, since he continually made references to dead people as "sleeping", until the resurrection. In fact, the rest of the bible also makes it perfectly clear that people are totally unconscious of ANYTHING, from the moment of their death. The ONLY exceptions, are the special cases that were translated to heaven without seeing death, like Enoch and Elijah.

A fair question, tell me TxGal, since you attack the faith.

Why did you leave, I asked previously and you never share.
If someone hurt you, offended you, someone in authority
in the Church or a fellow Catholic, forgive them. Is it
the requirements, are they too tough? The requirements are
grace filled, no where else can you receive such great grace.

I am sorry if I've hurt your feelings in any way at GLP.
I could be nicer but it's difficult and painful to read the trashing of the faith.

I've answered you a million times, Mary. I left because the traditions of men weren't cutting it. Bowing before statues, bowing before a man who is human as I am? No thanks.

Now answer me, why do you stay?

 Quoting: TXGal4Truth

Your reasons, the bowing, no one bows before a statue TXGal. People kneel in prayer. And when have you been to see the Pope? Bowing when you meet the Holy Father is an honoring gesture, big deal. Traditions of men, what? Your "soul sleep" is a tradition of men.

I stayed because I know why I feel the presence of God in me. And only through the Church, there is the fullest means to get to Heaven. And the Holy Eucharist and I need
the assurance of absolution and I love Mary, she helps me
stay close to her Son. I wouldn't of known on my own of the Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Who they are...I
am grateful.

Just kidding. But seriously, I don't know your specific branch of christianity, but if you are following this entity Christ - then likely everything you know about him comes down through the collection of books that was selected (and heavily edited) by the Catholic Church. Can you admit that, as unpleasant as it may sound to you, as a christian - your christianity is indelibly imprinted by the church that brought you the legends in the first place? So how can you possibly challenge one particular aspect of the Catholic Church but accept the others.

Better to chuck the whole shebang and follow the essential energies of the original idea.

I absolutely agree with what you said TXGal..

Psalm 51:1-2 is very clear about it

“Be gracious to me O GOD, according to your lovingkindness; according to the greatness of your compassion blot out my transgressions.”

but consider that Jesus granted permission to 'ordinary' men to forgive sins in John 20:23..

he said:

“If you forgive the sins of any, their sins have been forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they have been retained

personally.. I believe what it says in Psalms

The Catholic "church" did not write one word of scripture. Every single author of every single book was DEAD... LONG before the rise of Constantine, and the Papacy.

Just because they decided what books were canonized doesn't mean ANYTHING. The scriptures make it perfectly clear that God can even use the wicked, to accomplish his purposes, and there are examples of it in the bible. And it also says that He catches the "wise" in their own craftiness. Job 5:13, 1st Corinthians 3:19

God has been in control of His word since day ONE.

So his direction of the Council of Nicaea, which selected some books and shitcanned the rest, had absolutely no bearing on the Word of God, eh? Furthermore, none of the translations changed one iota of the sacrosanct Word as it came down. Why? Because God his own self was behind every hand that wrote, selected and translated any part of the bible. Would that be a correct assessment of what you're saying?

+ + +

How does the pope have the power to do this? Confession? Only GOD himself can forgive sins...not man on earth.

You friend, have taken the mark.

TXGal, abduct

It's God's plan that man in the place of Christ would forgive sins. The Holy Father was/is a priest.

Believing only a few verses in Scripture is Protestant
no matter how much you say you are not Protestant.

You can't reject John 20:23. Jesus is speaking there.
Read the verse, is it not true, one has to hear someone's
sins to forgive them? Who was Jesus addressing, the first
priests, the Apostles.

John 6:21
He said therefore to them again: Peace be to you. As the Father hath sent me, I also send you. [22] When he had said this, he breathed on them; and he said to them: Receive ye the Holy Ghost. [23] Whose sins you shall forgive, they are forgiven them; and whose sins you shall retain, they are retained.

The Remnant is Roman Catholic, we're in the end times and
you all who start these threads are in for the biggest
shock! 1doh1

Wrong God "Mary". And that's not "Mary" helping you stay close to the true Mary's Son. The true Mary is sleeping in her grave, awaiting resurrection day, despite the clown who keeps labeling people as "7th Day Adventists", all because they speak biblical truth. As if Mary (and all the other saved people of the world) are supposed to come back to earth with Jesus, and then climb back into their bodies, to be raised up.

It's absolutely RIDICULOUS. The bible makes it perfectly clear that the dead KNOW NOTHING, and are unconscious in their graves, until the second coming. In fact, the wicked dead stay unconscious until a thousand years after the return of Christ, when ONLY the righteous dead are raised.

Meanwhile, come out of the Mother of Harlots, before it's to late... "Mary".
