What was the biggest lie told by your parents that you believed when you were a child, however later realised they had lied to you all along
I had two "pet" chickens that one day mysteriously disappeared from the back yard. When I asked my parents what happened to them, I was told that while trying to escape the yard they both got their heads stuck under a fence. I was told there was no other way to get them out,so to free them from under the fence and put them out of their misery, my father had to use an axe to chop their heads off.lol
I awoke the next morning to the smell of chicken soup ...but still it was only much later I realised the deception!

That they walked to school barefoot in the snow for miles and miles over hills, then my dad was paid 25 cents a week to start the old schoolhouse wood stove. All that to make me believe that I had it made

My parents never really lied to me... In fact they were a little too blunt sometimes. They did lie to me when I asked if I had ever been tested for ADD in elementary school, I later found out from reading my records that I had been tested several times and they thought I had it. I was never medicated for it though because my mom didn't believe ADD existed. I could have saved years of not being able to focus, skipping school, acting like an idiot, if I had just been zombied out like all the other kids on Ritalin.

My mother had me believe her husband who I thought was my dad,was my dad. She never told me she had an affair and I had a different dad. I found out when I was donating blood one day ( I have a rare blood type) and the nurse said you should ask your parents to donate because one of them has to have this type of blood. So low and behold when I was 26 years old I went home to ask who had the blood type. GO FIGURE Neither.
My mother is a borderline personality and is very toxic. She thought she was supposed to have an affair to bring a child in-How delusional.especially when she already had 3 other children with her husband! She treated me like absolute trash growing up and always had this entitlement feeling that I should be lucky for her affairs. I never seem to see it that way.
I have since met my real father and he is the best man I have ever met besides my husband. He treats me like a daughter and a person. He has taught me parental love and gave me guidance...
Just a side note when i grew up I knew I did not fit in my family at 4 yrs old I would say this does not feel like my family. I was hospitalized for an identity disorder, which was caused by my mothers delusions. She wanted me to believe a lie that eternally i knew was wrong. Seems i was right after all. I did have an identity disorders, from her lies about my father.

Re: What was the biggest lie told by your parents that you believed when you were a child, however later realised they had lied to you all along
My parents were such liars it is hard for me to pick just one. I am talking about the people who adopted me. They believed in lying. They used it everyday to make things the way they wanted it to be for them. They are both gone now and not a day goes by that I do not think of something they lied about, from what was my real name to if I asked for something they said they did not don't have it. It would show up later somewhere. I would have appreciated "no, it's mine. No, I am your parent and I don't want you to go to school there. No, I won't tell you your name, you might want to use it and that would upset me.

Lying was their way of life, good Christian that they were. It made them comfortable. My mother's biggest lie was that she was happily married to my father. In the end she admitted it was a lie, her entire married life sucked, and she gave up and died six week later. It makes me furious to this day. I have never lied to my children. May not always be pleasant, but if you lie it will come back and bite you later.
No good deed goes unpunished.

I don't think that is a lie, but a half truth. You can be anything you want to be if you work at it hard enough is what we should be told. In addition, "I will support you in all your hard work to achieve your goal." I don't see too many parents willing to do that. I envy the lucky few who have parents with that approach to parenting. Often we have parents who are jealous of us and might say that, but will knock us back down so we do not succeed.

My adopted parents believed I came from trash. Well, I did, but I was very smart, smarter than them. And they did not want their little trash baby to succeed, especially being female.

When I was a young child say 6-7 years old, my Dad told me that belly button lint was worth a lot of money. Unknown to him, in secret, I saved my belly button lint for a L O N G time -- until there was enough to see anyway, like the end of a Q-tip. I showed it to him one day and asked him how much it was worth. He said, What is it? I reminded him of what he said...and he howled with laughter. I felt very stupid and small.

Thank god nobody knows me here!!!

Re: What was the biggest lie told by your parents that you believed when you were a child, however later realised they had lied to you all along
That they believed in God and his way. That i got sick as a baby and almost died. That they knew what was best for me.

A cousin told me when i was a teenager that my mother ran away from home. I confronted her with that and she confessed that the ones i called grandparents where some far away friends that took my mother in. I rocked both houses by calling them liars, parents and grandparents, tho they never made an apology. I never looked at my grandparents again.

A few months later i realised what happen to me as a baby so i asked again and it turned out that the doctor let me fell on my head. We took x-ray pictures and it clearly showed that my neck has been broken or fractured, my head does not sit straight the relax position is a little to the right. Again i rocked the house again no apology.

I followed their wish in education and now there are just a few jobs around which most of them are to far away. I had a weak spot for music, the bass gitar in particular, if you knew what kind of words and names they threw at me when i went out and just bought one and so i rocked the house again.

How did i rock the house :
A freaking bunch of liars. My whole life you have been dominating me, telling me the ten commandment while you have lieing to me from the point i talked and walked around. Why do you think i would listen now when you have been pushing my al my freaking life. I wanted to play bass and what did you say "no there is no money in that kind of live" and now look no freaken work in the thing you wanted me to learn tho what do you say "you must work, go find one" you simpletons. Do you have any knowlegde about how many people i told i was deadly sick as a baby ? because you lied i DAMMED lied. In my whole life it was you two that lead me astray and now you will know the meaning off what goes around comes around and what you sow you shall harvest.

I still live with my parents honor you're parents till they die God said and so i do but ever since these happenings i am like a thorn in their foot, exactly as the teachings teach.

I don't recall any lies. I don't recall much talking at all.

I did believe in Santa, I think, but apparantly was not overly traumatized by the truth, because I don't remeber finding out.

Re: What was the biggest lie told by your parents that you believed when you were a child, however later realised they had lied to you all along
After my divorce in 2000 I move back to the home I was born in, with my kids. In 2005 I discovered a news clipping among my mother's things that got me questioning my father's accidental drowning. After research involving interviews with family friends at the time of his death as well as my siblings, not only did I discover I had 5 step brothers and sisters from my dad's previous marriage [which mom had always told me were "cousins"...she was their babysitter when they met.] I learned many inconsistencies surrounding his death and now I'm convinced she played a very intimate role in his death. I've caught her in several outright lies regarding this.

Someday I may finish the book but it's a painful process.
