During the visit, the king will attend the MAKS-2005 Air Show, Jordanian ambassador to Russia, Abdelilah al-Kurdi was quoted by the agency as saying. “The king will arrive on August 16 and stay in Russia until August 19,” he said. The air show will take place in the town of Zhukovsky near Moscow. 654 participants of 40 countries including 520 Russian companies will take part in the show. Russian companies are to present the engines of new generation. One of the most important exhibits presented at MAKS will be the full-scale model of the new Russian Clipper manned spaceship. Clipper is to replace the disposable Soyuz spacecraft which is currently used to man the International Space Station. The main difference of the Clipper from the U.S. Space Shuttle project and the Russian shuttle Buran is that it is made of two parts and only the piloted compartment is actually of multiple use. The hardware compartment is disposable, just like present Russian spaceships. One Clipper spacecraft will be capable of 25 space missions. [ link to www.mosnews.com] 08/12/abdallah.shtml |
