You are right. Tonight it is 11.30 (23.30) PM and the moon is entirely too far west. It should be in the middle of the sky. Is anyone else noticing this???

I forgot mention the date it is the 6th of May 2011. and Once again the moon is entirely too far west. It is almost out of sight from wear I normally see it?? Anyone know why???

I noticed it was in the west (maybe ssw) not too long after dark last night. 10 pm or so eastern?

Maybe the moon is in the right place maybe it's you that are out of place.

Or maybe you got transported to an alternative universe where the moon is really really fast

From where you NORMALLY see it? So what you're actually saying is you didn't know that the Moon rises and sets about an hour later each day as it progresses through its phases. Thus there is no place it can NORMALLY be seen as it will be in a different place at the same time from night to night.

Yesterday, out in California, when the sun was setting the moon was also on it's way to setting. By 9 o'clock the moon was gone.

And what's supposed to be wrong with that? That is exactly what the Moon should be doing in th first crescent phase.

I agree last night in Indiana. I went out and it was there and a hour later it was gone. Im sorry but this crap is really starting to bother me.

MOON-TARD ALERT

I noticed that too, last night. Thought that was strange, but what do I know about the moon?

Now I see it wasn't my imagination, others clued in on that as well.

Any plausible answers, anyone?

I meant to post this last night, but was sleepy.
A few months ago during the lunar eclipse (which was almost straight overhead here) I noticed that the moon looked like a pale pink ball when it was completely in the shadow. It was a crescent new moon last night, but to me it looked like the same odd pink color, which it shouldn't have unless it was in a shadow again. Did anyone else see this?

It is worth remembering that many thousands of people were watching the moon last night during the eclipse. I'm sure someone would have noticed if it only took a few seconds to go through the whole event

if it lands on earth it will float around just fine in the oceans, but it could cause a lot of temporary water displacement on impact.

The Moons orbit isn't a perfect circle and also shifts up/down many degrees angle.

It is perfectly normal for the Moon to race across the sky or creep real slow. It just depends on the state of orbit and the viewer.

Well, the Sun and Moon follow the same general path because it is actually the Earths rotation that makes it appear to move. When the Moon is new or close to new, it will set with the Sun, rise with the Sun. Which is why you can't see the New moon.....
