Are you miserable? Feel like God isn't listening to your prayers? Down to your wit's end?
i posted this to a specific person who was looking for help but its buried within a particular thread.. so.. if anyone else feels like this person did, hopeless, lost, like God doesn't care.. then I now share it with you

Hey dude..

You seem to be at a low point. Been there man..

From personal experience I know of a few things that may be preventing your prayers from seeming like they even get past the ceiling.

First off.. have you ever been Saved and Baptised?

Being Saved is something you can do on your own

You simply have to verbally confess that you Believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and that he was Crucified by man and that he was Resurrected, and that without him you are lost (For we are _all_ sinners by nature, none of us are perfect (you know this already)

Romans 10:8 ...The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;

9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, THOU SHALT BE SAVED.

10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.

13 FOR WHOSOEVER SHALL CALL UPON THE NAME OF THE LORD SHALL BE SAVED.

If you have done this before, It is Ok to do it again. Why not? Couldn't hurt. as long as you mean it. Now, you may still have doubt. Feelings of doubt are normal (for me at least) and until you truly develop a relationship with Christ, you will never find the strength to chase away every fiery dart that Satan sends to your subconscious

Now, go get baptized. Find a church or just a person who will do it for you. This means _full body immersion_ not being sprinkled with water. Before you go under, make another profession of faith. The more people you do it in front of the better, because there's a special confidence you gain from overcoming nervousness and proving you are not ashamed to call on Christ in front of others, however God knows all hearts and nothing is secret from him, so having people there to witness it is not required

It may be hard to find someone to baptize you. (which is Sad) because personal experience has shown me that many churches won't even baptize someone unless they have become or intend to become a regular member of their church. (how hypocritical! we don't serve churches, we serve GOD!)

Again, if you have been baptized before, it never hurts to do it again to reaffirm your faith

But it is required. its not just a symbol.. Jesus commanded all who would take up their cross to go out and preach and baptize people

Matt 28
[18] And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
[19] Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
[20] Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Now.. the next most important thing after faith in Christ is repentance

You see, even if you have been saved, being unrepentant still conpromises your eternal salvation! the problem with the world today is that Churches lead people to believe that things like church attendance, money offerings, and non-biblical rituals will save your soul. This is false doctrine and it comes from the influence of Satan

Jesus' scathing rebuke of the Pharisees (high ranking religious men at the turn of the millenium) should be a direct warning to people who would become teachers of the Gospel but it goes unheeded and ignored by and large

John 8
[41] Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.
[42] Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.
[43] Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.
[44] Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

you see, anytime a preacher/priest teaches doctrine that is not scripturally sound, it is the work of men's minds, which are flawed to begin with. we have no place of clouding Christ's role as our redeemer with any other doctrine whatsoever

Matthew 15
8] This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.
[9] But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

When you become saved and baptized, then you set the stage for changes to take place. You become "receptive" to the Holy Spirit.

You see, Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to have an active role in our day to day lives. Think of it as the best friend you could ever have on this Earth. It is a teacher, a guide, a disciplinarian, and above all else, a comforter.

Prophecies and visions and words of knowledge as the OP describes them, are delivered through the Holy Spirit

It could be described as the working manifestation of God on Earth that dwells within each and every one of us. In its simplest functions, it is your conscience. that voice of right vs. wrong in the back of your mind, but as you develop spiritually it will become a powerful force in your life

But this takes work on your part

So we come again to repentance..

You already seem to be on the right track, as you have said

But I can see that something is holding you back. Pressing you down and keeping your spirit in chains

It can be several things but chances are you are harboring a certian amount of guilt over past misdeeds, or unresolved hurt

You may also have grudges that you have no released. You see, grudges do _no_ good for you whatsoever, and they will literally _slaughter_ your soul

You may not even realize that you hold grudges. I know I didn't for the longest time

Do you ever think back to certain people who have offended you or just plain out done you wrong?

For me, I often found myself remembering Teachers in school who did cruel things to me that made me lose faith in the school system altogether, and I have always blamed them for many of my shortcomings in life

It may be a parent or guardian who was too strict on you, or didn't show you enough affection growing up

It could be a friend or associate who you have had a major falling out with that may or may not have been resolved, but you still hold resentment in your heart towards them

Take heed of this next passage

Mark.11
[25] And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.
[26] But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.

You see, Christ WILL forgive you of all of your sins, no matter how bad they are. but not if you are unforgiving

This is something that a lot of people miss I think (I know I certainly did, for the longest time)

You have to shed these grudges and feelings of resentment. Search your heart.. is there anyone you hate? these are the more obvious ones and they should be the first ones you address. If you are having trouble finding the strength to chase off these soul killing grudges, pray about it.

Matt.19
[26] But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

God WILL give you the strength to forgive, even if you can't find it on your own. People are just flawed like that

But you HAVE to do it. It WILL enslave your soul if you can't bring yourself to do this. And that may be what is holding you back spiritually

Now that we have addresed that.. let us turn back to your own shortcomings

Just as you have to saerch your heart to identify people you have no forgiven of their sins, you must search your heart to find your sins if you want them forgiven

Again, if you are having trouble doing this, PRAY! if all else fails, always PRAY! God knows your heart, and he knows what you need, but you must have faith and Prayer is one way of demonstrating this. Aside from that, doesn't God deserve to be reached out to? Whether you know it or not, he has reached out to you many times. And he will keep on knocking. You just gotta open that door through repentance, prayer, and forgiveness

God does not expect you to come up with a list of every single thing you have ever done wrong. You could never finish a list like that :p

He just wants to see that you are honestly searching your soul.

You have to be _hard_ on yourself. You have to despise the sins you have commited. You have to humble yourself.

Pride is a soul killer as well, possibly the biggest one

You see, even a little bit of pride or self righteousness will completely blind you to being honest with yourself. You will overlook small or serious offenses alike (though, in God's eyes, sin is sin. if you commit one, you commit them all.)

This is why we are all equal in God's eyes : We are all sinners. People tend to judge eachother because it makes them feel more secure thinking they haven't been as greedy, jealous, prideful, deceitful, or unfaithful as the next person

But God hates ALL sin

He doesn't hate the sinner.. just the sin

So even if you have to start small, start devoting yourself to change

Identify your wrongdoings, and ask forgiveness for them. Tell God you know that you are a sinner, and can never be perfect, but you want to try to be more perfect. He needs to _see_ that effort

Now..

Onto something I just touched base on..

Judgement and Self Righteousness

Luke.6
[37] Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:

That is my message in a nut shell

You see, we as human beings are naturally judgemental.

We judge all the time, whether we know it or not.

We judge people based on superficial things like apperance, education, social standing, possesions, clothing..

We judge people based on gender, race, nationality, homeland, profession..

When God looks at us, he sees our Souls and our Hearts, not our apperance, our possesions, our intelligence, our education, our voice, our abilities or skills, or our accomplishments

and we cannot see other poeple's Souls and Hearts, so how can we judge them?

Judgement belong to Jesus. He will judge the world when he returns. No judgement we pass on Earth is going to effect who we pass it on when this world fades away. But it will condemn us..

For you see, How we judge others is how we will be judged

Don't ever tell someone they are going to Hell for something they did.. because you may be damning yourself to Hell in the process

Only God knows if they are going to Hell or not, so why even bother yourself with it?

Its a shame that many people today, especially those in positions of religious authority, do this all the time

The fact is, there are not a lot of good examples in the world today. Thankfully there is no better example than Jesus.

I hope I have helped you in your journey..

Take not of the things I have mentioned

Thoroughly examine yourself and find what it is that is holding you back, and once you have identified it, pray about it. ask for help with it.

The last thing I will give you is the Lord's prayer.

This is the manner in which Jesus told us to pray. It doesn't mean you have to use this exact prayer word for word (though I myself do) but I will say that it is a tremendous help in examining yourself spiritually because I know that everytime I get to "and forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who have sinned against us" its a reminder to make sure that we have indeed forgiven those who have sinned against us.

"In Jesus Name I pray..
Our Father, who art in Heaven
Hallowed be thy name
Thy kingdom come,
they will be done,
on eath as it is in Heaven

Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our sins
as we forgive you who have sinned against us

and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil

for thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory
forever and ever, amen"

Pray as many times as you can. anytime you even think about prayer, go do it. it helps to find a place where you can be alone, and focus on your thoughts without anyone overhearing. Drop down on your knees when you do it too.. show that you are humble

Now, I encourage you to learn to truly speak with the Lord. Opening with the Lord's prayer is always a good start and sets the mood. if you find it hard to find the words to say, just sit and meditate. this is the best time to search your heart, because you have already opened up a dialogue with God, and you will find that this helps you find the words. As soon as you find something you need to confess, just start pouring it out.

And in all things be thankful. Give God his praise. As you start changing yourself you will feel more and more blessed because this is indeed God in action. you cannot acheive these kinds of results without him. Let him know you appreciate it!

Have you ever just been awestruck by something beautiful in nature? like a sunset? or a bright sunny day with a cool breeze? Do you have a pet that is loyal to you and treats you like you are the only person in the world?

God made all these things. He gave us a perfect world, which we are destroying. All praise is due to our Lord for the amazing world he has given us. No artist can compare. Let him know you appreciate his work!

Now.. before I leave, let me again stress the first thing I mentioned

If you haven't been saved and baptized, you need to do it. God intends for this to happen when we are children, but the family unit is no longer living by God's standards, and it leaves many of us walking a fine edge between salvation and damnation

You have to be saved and baptized first, for your spirit to truly take root and grow

Well.. sorry for typing so much.. But i sincerely hope and pray that I have helped you in any way whatsoever..

Please feel free to hit me back with any further questions or if you just need some advice

Oh - and once you get yourself on the right track, start reading that Bible more than ever! You see, the Word of God is special in a way that we will never fully understand it, and we will never even come close without the Holy Spirit teaching us. (That is another one of its many functions.. God Bless the Holy Spirit! without it we are lost without hope)

I strongly suggest Matthew. It is easilly approachable, and is chock full of massive amounts of wisdom and it clearly details how we are to live if we strive to be like Christ

You can it 100 times and through the blessings of the Holy Spirit you will learn more every time

Oh and here are some great resources

[link to quod.lib.umich.edu]

God bless you brother/sister! I love you and want nothing but the best for you, and you will find everything you need to be at peace and shed away these scars from your soul in your walk with our Lord and Shepherd Jesus Christ, the Messiah

I don't know God even though I've been searching for Him for years.

I don't have any peace, happiness, or joy.

My prayers are never answered.

I believe in God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.

I've been born again.

I've had a full immersion baptism.

I've read and studied the entire Bible at least six times and I pray every morning, day, and night.

The Epistle of First John tells me I'm lost.

God seems trillions of miles away.

I feel dead inside and wish I was never born.

I feel like if I drop dead right now...I'll end up in hell.

What must I do to have a personal relationship with the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob?

Please don't say just ask Him...I've done that hundreds of times without avail.

Help!

Quite frankly I'm getting to the point where I feel "prayed out".

I tried something recently.

For one week I prayed like I never prayed before and the during that week my life...spiritually, mentally, and physically was the same old, same old...CRAP!

The following week I didn't pray at all. As above, the result was the same...CRAP!

When I pray my life is CRAP and if I don't pray, my life is still CRAP! I'm just about ready to give up :(

Do you have unforgiveness in your life. Meaning is there something or someone you cant forgive. Are you doing something that keeps you from a blessing. And always remember The Devil is LIAR. Just cause you dont feel your prayers are heard. They are!

You keep saying "I did this" "I did that" but knowing God is knowing that you don't have to do anything. It isn't about you at all or what you feel or what you do. You should actually not think much of yourself at all. You should care about others and love others more than yourself. Love is about not focusing on yourself. If you only focus on yourself and what you feel or don't feel, then you will never find God. He isn't in you or what you do. Some people think they can find God in themselves or be like God, but I don't think that. We are not God and we can't find him in our own self or in our own works.

Friend, please read Romans 8-verse 26. Your Holy Spirit will make intersessions for you. Have faith. There is nothing else for you to do, the LORD JESUS CHRIST did it all at the cross. Sin paid for in full. When you ask for forgiveness, GOD does, and HE remembers it no more. Forgive yourself. You seem to be making it very hard, ease up and let GOD. HE loves you.
If you break my wings, I will just find a cloud and learn to fly again. The Lord will catch you when you fall or teach you to fly! May the footprints I leave lead you to BELIEVE.

Well if you have been saved and baptized then the problem is within your own spirit

Who have you not forgiven?

What sins are you keeping?

When you examine yourself, is there anything you have pinpointed but then you have found yourself making some sort of excuse for, like "well God probably isn't concerned with that?"

These are the things you should really focus on because its one thing to be ignorant of a transgression, but its a much worse thing to have knowledge of it and then ignore it

You didn't just get miserably depressed for nothing

Your soul will become afflicted because of your actions

Healing comes from within the soul

It cannot be acheived without Christ - it can only be ignored

By any chance are you self medicating? this could be done with drugs or alcohol, or it could be done in other less obvious ways.. what are you placing your faith in aside form God to get you through your darkness?

I know that when I called to God I was smoking a LOT of "spice" (sythetic marijuana) at the time

He still had mercy on me, but it didn't take long for me to realize that the drug was killing me spiritually and inhibiting my growth

And, ironically, through putting faith in God, I found the strength to remove my faith on self medication to get me through the day

However, I must stress that I went through a good long period of self loathing where I tore myself apart for my explosive anger problems that were destroying my livelihood and the liveliehood of others around me

This was the begining of my true repentence

You see, despising the situation you are in isn't helping

You have to identify what is contributing to the situation in - namely, your own spiritual shortcomings. these are what should be despised

And I did indeed despise myself at that time

I hated myself more than anything

Sometimes it takes a "jolt" to get you in the right direction

For me it was overhearing how people felt about my rage. I had left the house and they assumed I went walking but I was really sitting on the porch and I overheard them talking and I could tell how much they hated the way I acted when I was angry

You see, when people tell you to your face you have a problem, you tend to just deflect. like i did. and i just got angrier and blamed it on them

but when you hear their words behind your back, with your own ears..

i tell you what, that just cut me like a knife

I went home and cried. I don't know if it was that night that I called on God but it wasn't long after

I hope this helps..

The key is being HONEST with yourself

Stop trying to spare your ego by overlooking things

has anyone ever called you selfish? greedy? judgmental? hateful? bitter? ungrateful? self righteous? perverted? unforgiving? too angry? corrupt? egotistical? too proud? hypocritical?

the time has come to start really analyzing ourselves

Had I never done this, I wouldn't be singing the same tune now

Granted, I am still far from perfect

I am still wicked, full of impure thoughts. selfish at times, entirely too prideful, sometimes judgemental, I still get angry too often

but through God's grace I can honestly say that I am at peace spiritually now.. I have definately grown as a person

I get along with my family more than I ever have, even from back when I was a kid

But I had to really honestly hate myself and my wicked ways and humble myself before God

You probably have not strayed nearly as bad as I have, but we all stray. and we all must face the truth and humble ourselves

Pride is a soul killer
Ego is an Antichrist

I to this day am struck by how undeserving I am of God's grace.. but he gave it to me anyway when I honestly repented

Now listen.. this is important

If you really begin making breakthroughs in what I have talked about

Things are gonna get worse first

Because coming to the realization that you are nowhere close to the image of yourself that your ego falsly portrayed for so long is a shock to the equilibrium

But it leads to nothing but healing

Trust me - God will show you the way. he will show you your transgressions

When you pray, your message should be that you want to change

That you want to know your short comings so you can address them

That you are ready to make honest changes in your life and you know that only through Jesus Christ are they possible

God Bless you and your loved ones.. the road ahead is gonna get a lot darker before the dawn.. Don't think for one minute that God doesn't see your torment.. He sees it.. He is just waiting on you to truly repent

Re: Are you miserable? Feel like God isn't listening to your prayers? Down to your wit's end?
Sometimes I feel that God is not listening to me either. I want to see Jesus or dream of him - or strongly hear him speak to me - but I never do!
To the Guy who feels really down:

Guess God doesn't want to speak to me in such obvious ways - his reasons are known only to him and he must have his reasons. However remember blessed are those who don't see or hear yet believe by faith alone.

I wish he would speak to me more obviously - but he is always so subtle, in my conscience or just in other people. However I do feel his overwhelming mercy sometimes - and this is something I must be grateful for.

As another reader said - remember satan is the liar. He will try to convince you that you are not being listened to - and he will play on your weaknesses - like pride and ego. Do you want God to speak to you for the right reasons? Do you want gifts for the right reasons? These were things I had to ask myself and I came to the conclusion that maybe I'm better off with the subtle communciations of God as anything else might leave me open to egotisim, pride etc.

As God wills not I -
and cast the spirit of depression out in the name of Jesus!

Take care brother in Christ

Re: Are you miserable? Feel like God isn't listening to your prayers? Down to your wit's end?
Listen to this LORD's Prayer in Aramaic.....

[link to www.youtube.com]

Our Father which art in heaven

Hallowed be thy name

Thy Kingdom come

Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil .

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Where is God ? He made me many promises in his word ... where is he? Jesus told me ask anything in his name and he would answer... Where is God? I have been saved by the grace of God thru Jesus Christ bought by his precious blood... but where is he! Promise after Promise he makes in his word the Holy Bible.... But He is FAILING ME ... FAILING MANY OF HIS CHILDREN ... Instead he is just letting us SUFFER ... WHAT KIND OF GOD DOES THIS? Why does he give me stones when I ask for bread?????

I used to proclaim Gods power from the Roof-Tops and gave many my testimony ... but where is God now?

He is letting us suffer ... He is FAILING ME! What kind of God does this ... just lets his children suffer ... Why his he not being true to his word?

Jesus Christ is Lord!!!!

Re: Are you miserable? Feel like God isn't listening to your prayers? Down to your wit's end?
ARE THEY ALL JUST LIES?

Ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For every one who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Or what man of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!

For truly, I say to you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you.

I tell you the truth, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and it will be done. If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.

Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

"I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it."

All things are possible to him who believes

WTF!!!! WHERE IS GOD? If I can't trust him for needs in this life what am I to do about eternity?

God is not failing you. If you do what you should do then He will honor your faithfulness with His own. Perhaps you need to ask Him what you should do in order to have specific prayers answered.

Oh, you silly delusionists...

There is no "god" listening to you.

You're talking to yourselves.

Stop deluding yourselves into thinking "prayer" is the answer...it is not.

Embrace reality...not the fiction that religion sells you.

YOU are in control of the self...not some invisible cloud-being.

Only when you realize this, will you find the answer and the inner peace you desire.

Oh Geezus. How come all the animals on earth lived within walking distance of his house? Because that book you read is bullshit. YOU and YOUR KIND are responsible for more death and misery than anything else in this world.

Actually prayer does work as a mental programming exercise, and you can program your brain for happiness.

I would warn against praying for help from any of mankind’s many fictional deities, because you are setting yourself up for disappointment, much like children who are taught to believe in the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, Santa Clause, Jesus Christ, etc.

Re: Are you miserable? Feel like God isn't listening to your prayers? Down to your wit's end?
God will hear a prayer it depends how much rapport we build up with him in our daily life. Some of us being left behind wonderin why our prayers are unanswered coz maybe we are not building up a good relationship to God everyday in our lives, some maybe have only prayed whenever they have problems and some maybe have forgotten God when things turns alright and only remembering God once in awhile when they are happy. Our relationship to God should be constant it's regardless whether we are happy or not,we should always thank him everyday no matter how big or small the blessings we recieved. So that whenever we pray,we would be left unanswered.

Re: Are you miserable? Feel like God isn't listening to your prayers? Down to your wit's end?
I can always tell when my Spirtual life is not as it should be, things just go wrong that shouldn't. Best thing to do is go in your room, shut the door, Pray & believe because Jesus IS right beside you always. Your honest Prayers are always heard. Be honest when you Pray and let Him know how you feel about everything that's not right in your life at that moment. He will help you, but you have to do some of the work too. Search your heart and Soul so you will be honest to God, when you speak to Him. Always be Thankful to Him for even the smallest things. I think many of us fail to see the endless amount of Blessings right in front of us. I know I've been guilty of that more than once. He hears every single Prayer to Him, no matter who you are.. God Blesshf
