What exactly is a Beta Gross Count Rate (CPM):
I've been seeing people over the last few days posting radiation readings from RADNET. These posters all seem to be focusing on a Beta Gross Count Rate (CPM) number; a number that at times is quite high and creates alarm.

Nowhere have I seen an explanation as to what exactly a Beta Gross Count Rate (CPM) is. Can a scientific type out there please explain this? What does it equate to? Sieverts? Rads? something else entirely?

Thanks!

they don't give specific data on what range 1, 2, 3, etc. actually mean.

I would recommend you track the levels over time to see trends. If the levels increase by a lot over a few hours or days, then you should worry.
