A change of tyres (for brits)
Have any brits had a change of tyres recently?
I had a change of tyres yesterday, then noticed the person that changed them writing down a log of which tyres had been changed.
Then I noticed him writing down the mileage? At that I asked him what he was doing, he then told me it was now law to write down the vehicle number, tyres changed and milage.
I find this a bit over the top, any ideas as to why they might do this?

This happened to me recently. (US) They logged every bit of info. about the car and the old tires. When asked why this was necessary the attendant said it was "standard procedure." Ticked me off.

Every tire(tyre) has a unique serial #. Isnīt that odd?

It protects the garage if a complaint is made to the police about defective tyres for a start.

For example a car could go into a garage in the UK with borrowed wheels for an mot, then the old tyres put back on...

Makes the garage look like they are doing illegal things

The other reason is tyres cannot be just dumped nowadays, they all have to be logged and disposed of legally due to environmental issues
