Gold will be worthless when it all hits the fan. Ammo, food, and water would be a better bet.

Absolutely not gold will always be a safe bet.

It always goes up in times of chaos and uncertainty and never drops afterwards.

It will always be a good trade medium as well as silver b/c there is a limited supply.

It packs easily and a small amount is worth alot so its a ripe form of currency as well.

I would actually invest in silver first it will be even more commonly used for barter/trade if things get worse.


And by invest i mean actually get your hands on it.

People said the same thing when it was $500 an ounce. It's all relative.

You think our currency is going to become worth more or less? That's the only question to ask.

value of gold and silver is not tied to our currency

we lost the gold standard along time ago

They are both the oldest known forms of currency for a reason, and I believe they will stay the most important form well into the future

If I had the only can of beans or last 5 rounds of ammo within 500 miles there is no amount of gold I would take for it.

No in the bible it says they will throw their gold into the streets it will be worthless. Buy food water pay off bills like house or car you have to have some where to live, don't worry about paying off credit cards, what they going to do to you nothing.

Nothing like a nice piece of radiated Gold, burning a hole in your pocket. Maybe you can find a bunker someplace where you can spend it.

Money is for buying things, like food, and gold is the most liquid form of money.

I don't have a good answer for you, maybe it will be an investment maybe it won't. Perhaps it'll be worth less dollars than you paid for it, BUT you'll at least have something universal to trade in. I would love to simply believe it'll be worthless like it says in the Bible, but what if that isn't really happening right now, even though a lot of us think it is. I do think you should have food, etc. But if you have food etc or a farm or access to food then why not supplement your goods with gold in the meantime?

Many here think that you can't eat gold. In large quantities that may be true, but a little gold is a good thing. Yum.

Gold is good for insuring your money. If your money increases in value your gold decreases. If your money decreases in value your gold increases. This way you never lose purchasing power and you preserve your wealth no matter what.

In an TSHTF situation, cigars, weed, chocolate, whisk, etc will be much more usefull

If there is a huge catastrophe in America or anywhere else for that matter, think about it. How much will gold really help you? Not much I'm afraid. Spend your time worrying about other things like staying alive. Gold will not help you do that in a catatrophe. Food is more important and nobody will sell it to you if they need it for themselves. They could care less about your worthless Gold.

That's how the market discovered gold as money. Through centuries of trial and error gold proved to be the most accepted good in exchange for other goods or services. Wen TSHTF it will be rediscovered the same way.

Gold is a solid buy under 1400, its going to fluctuate, so buy the dips. Japan is the key, if they don't get that under control, gold will be worthless. If all the land on earth is contaminated, might as well kill yourself.

WRONG. Long before gold was used in exchange for goods things were traded for other things. Gold would be worthless for many many years after it hits the fan. Food, ammo, water, clothing, seeds, things like that will be traded for other things not for gold.

Personally I would not trade my stuff for any of that which you listed.
