i doubt that he is shocked that he was cracked down upon by the state

he had to have known that attempting to usurp the state sanctioned monopoly of money that is held by wall street would bring steep retribution

maybe his act of civil disobedience was meant to try to wake up the American people that they aren't actually free, so long as there isn't freedom of money. unfortunately for him, the people on both the left and right sides of the political spectrum are mostly statist shills that have no interest in actual freedom.

Yep, in an alternate universe, he and those that actually sacrifice their own potential luxury for the rights of others based on principle, like Terry Lakin, will receive the accolades they deserve, but not here, and not now.

Under Article 1 section 8 of the U.S. constitution are enumerated powers of the U.S. congress.

The following are powers given to congress:

To coin Money, regulate the Value thereof, and of foreign Coin, and fix the Standard of Weights and Measures;

To provide for the Punishment of counterfeiting the Securities and current coin of the United States;

The Federal Reserve bank is creating coin with no oversight from the congress and should therefore be considered as counterfeit.

98 years of domestic terrorism perpetuated by the Federal Reserve should warrant a death sentence.

Well this is crap.. If i want to make coins with the intent for their distribution and use as legal tender, i have all the freedom in the world to believe i can do that. And if i try to pass it off as legal tender, well whose job is it to make sure it IS legal tender? The REAL-criminal counterfeiters? HAH!

All he needs is a business license and then claim he was testing the security of the businesses and people whom he sold the coins to. Security being his business and all..

why are they calling it terrorism? can't they think of a real crime to charge him with?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1307966

Because under the " Patriot act " they can charge him as a enemy combatant and not have to give him a trial or lawyer or even a phone call until the Government decides to ( 1 day to 30yrs )..

One would hope that Ron Paul himself would come to his aid. He didn't do anything wrong or unconstitutional - except in the unconstitutional federal reserve's rule book.

I don't see why they had to label it as domestic terrorism.

The author of the article kind of twisted the words of the US Attorney.

But the guy in fact BROKE the law. It is quite easy to see that. Well known laws at that.

If he had been smart...

He would have called it a Liberty coin.

Not had a value stamped on the coin.

Not claimed it as legal tender.

Then...

if asked, "what's the value of the coin?" He could have replied, "well, it's worth about a dollar", and winked.

If asked OFFICIALLY he could have claimed it an "artistic commemorative."

Various companies strike commemoratives all the time.

I mean people in the know would know exactly what the coin was all about.

If you are going to play games with the government, you've got to play smart.

Action? Simply retain what is yours. What you trade for, for your labor, the exchange of parts of your life for some object you agree to, is not income, and has as such never been defined by statute. You must define what you live your life for, not those anonymous men that benefit and trade only from your labor

The concept of offering a product with a better value used to be a tradition in america and highly regarded. "Dollar" is not unique to america. A coin is not unique to america. In fact there has been no effort made to claim equivalancy to american currency, it was, in fact, a separate, readily identifiable and much better product than american coinage. Other than that, there is nothing on any coin that hasnt been on any of dozens minted for a millenium.
Why is there no prosecution of those fake 5 and 20 dollar faux gold american coinage offerings or the 9/11 coin?? Fraud is part and parcel of got procedure, and it isnt gonna stop for you. Toadies and wannabes will be discarded by their masters when their usefullness is finished, remember that.

It's economic warfare, as the Chinese are conducting against us now. Economic warfare exists in writings 3,000 years old (Sun Tzu, the Art of War, eg). Rich merchant families have slowly been taking over the world by economic warfare for hundreds of years.

Basically, this guy (Is he really named Von Nut House?) acted in a way that reduces the strength of the dollar, and causes inflation. More dollars = more demand = price increase = reduced buying power of the dollar.

Counterfeiters dont reproduce a product that has more intrinsic value than what they copy.
THis is nothing more than another in a justification for confiscation of all items of intrinsic value not officially dennominated in dollars. It's about taxation and control.

jury nullification
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 955229

The time for that would have been before the Jury found him guilty, instead the article above linked by OP says that he was convicted and is now awaiting sentencing.

"Bernard von NotHaus, 67, created his own currency, some of which have Texas Republican Representative Ron Paul’s face on the front, and was found guilty after an eight-day trial and two hours of deliberation.

Von NotHaus used the Liberty Dollars in lieu of actual minted US coins and was found guilty on several charges stemming from making, processing, and using the imitation coins, the FBI said. He also was charged with conspiracy against the United States. "

I could not see where that article (at least) states he was found guilty of "conspiracy against the United States" only that he was charged with it. Anyone have more certain information on that point?

"In 2006, the US Mint and the Department of Justice issued a statement which said that the Liberty Dollars are “not legal tender,” the FBI stated. They also determined that circulating and using the coins is a federal crime."

Hmmm... But subway-tokens are?

The entire Legal Tender issue needs vast clarification in the minds of the Public... the attorneys have muddled up the entire issue in a hopeless mish-masho of legalese bull shit.

Cuz he shouldn't have put the word DOLLARS on them.

I know what the legal definition of a dollar is, so many grains of silver.

But DOLLAR - that's THEIR term.

You can make your own coins of approximately the same weight to use for trade or as a unit of currency but dammit, you gotta call it something DIFFERENT.

Call the coin a GELP, in honor of GLP!\

But don't call it a dollar! Cuz only the US gubmint and the Fed Reserve and all the bankster types have the authority to print/coin DOLLARS!!!

Capice?

GLP
