But what you said at the end no one who lives in America can deny: "Truly I must tell you today that the United States has been completely destroyed and only exists as a name, and can no more be spoken of as a land of freedom, opportunity or blessed by God. For surly He has forsaken this land and in its peoples eyes one sees only fear." Our freedoms have been revoked, our Constitution has been trashed and our hope is failing. |
Anonymous Coward 12/08/2005 10:08 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Re: African Animals to Be Introduced Into Americas Wild As Internal Destruction of United States Nears Completion Nope, she´s not stretching anything, this is just weird! Here´s the link to the story she quoted, and linked to: ´Rewilding´ could mean lions at large in US By Roger Highfield, Science Editor (Filed: 18/08/2005) Cheetahs, lions and even elephants could roam parts of North America in an extraordinary "rewilding" plan outlined today by ecologists and conservationists. The introduction of creatures, mostly from Africa, that are counterparts of large extinct beasts is suggested as a way of restoring ecosystems to something like the state they were in before man hunted large mammals and "megafauna" to extinction. Josh Donlan, the lead author of the study published in Nature, said that beavers had been reintroduced to Scandinavia to help restore the local ecosystem. The ecologists admit that they will be accused of wanting to "play God" but point out that cheetahs, camels and kangaroos already live on Texan ranches. During the Pleistocene era - between 1.8 million to about 10,000 years ago - ecosystems were much more diverse. The study says that introducing living counterparts to the extinct Pleistocene-period animals to create "Pleistocene Park" could fill the voids for American plants and animals that co-evolved with large but now extinct mammals. In America, the team points out that four million years of hunting by the now extinct American cheetah (Acinonyx trumani) was probably why the pronghorn (Antilocapra americana) - an antelope-like animal found throughout the south-west - developed the ability to run at up to 60mph. Introducing free-ranging African cheetahs back to the south-west could restore the relationship with pronghorns and provide endangered cheetahs with a new habitat. A pilot study will test a mild version of the rewilding plan by considering the release of the endangered Bolson tortoise on a private ranch in New Mexico. The tortoise, which can weigh up to 100lb and once thrived in Arizona and Mexico, now survives only in a small area of northern Mexico. Anonymous Coward 12/08/2005 10:08 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Re: African Animals to Be Introduced Into Americas Wild As Internal Destruction of United States Nears Completion North America may become a ´Pleistocene Park´ 18:00 17 August 2005 NewScientist.com news service Kurt Kleiner Elephants, lions, cheetahs and camels could one day roam the western US under a proposal to recreate North American landscapes as they existed more than 13,000 years ago, when humans first encountered them. The plan, proposed in a commentary in Nature and co-authored by 13 ecologists and conservation biologists, would help enrich a North American ecosystem that was left almost devoid of large mammals at the end of the Pleistocene period. It would also help preserve wildlife that faces the threat of extinction in Africa and Asia. Between 50,000 and 10,000 years ago, 97 of 150 genera of large mammals disappeared from around the world. Although a warming climate played its part, the consensus is that over-hunting by humans probably had a significant role. In North America, by about 13,000 years ago, humans were leaving evidence of big-game hunting using sophisticated stone tools. This hunting probably helped to drive many animals to extinction, including North American mammoths and mastodons, lions, cheetahs, camelops (a relative of the modern camel), horses and asses. 50-year plan Although those animals are gone forever, related African and Asian species could serve as proxies, the authors say. They propose introducing the animals over 50 years, starting with horses, asses and camels, working up to elephants, and finally bringing in the big cats. Eventually, the animals could roam in preserves hundreds of thousands of hectares in size. The best place to create this “Pleistocene Park” would be in the North American Great Plains, where the human population is relatively low and the grazing animals would have a ready supply of food. But other conservationists think it is a bad idea. Chris Haney, a conservation biologist at Defenders of Wildlife in Washington, DC, US, says that substituting modern equivalents of extinct species will not be the same as restoring the ancient ecosystem. And he thinks it would detract from more pressing and “realistic” goals, such as restoring wolves, grizzlies, elk and other animals to their historic North American ranges. Even those reintroductions have faced bitter opposition from ranchers, farmers, and residents. "I need to work on wolves, not mastodons," agrees Douglas Inkley, senior science adviser to the National Wildlife Federation in Reston, Virginia, US. [link to www.newscientist.com] |
Anonymous Coward 12/08/2005 10:08 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Re: African Animals to Be Introduced Into Americas Wild As Internal Destruction of United States Nears Completion Fearless lions are turning man-eater By Roger Highfield, Science Editor (Filed: 18/08/2005) Increasing numbers of lions are becoming man-eaters, placing lion conservation efforts in jeopardy, according to a study published today. Analysis suggests that controlling bush pigs - a major agricultural pest - could help big cats to live in peace with their human neighbours. In Tanzania conflicts between lions and people have escalated in part because of the country´s rapid population growth - from 23.1 million in 1988 to 34.6 million in 2002 - and an associated loss of lion prey outside protected areas. As a consequence, local people have killed increasing numbers of lions because of the rise of the man-eaters: since 1990 lions have killed more than 563 Tanzanians in rural areas. Victims have included old people, nursing mothers, children playing outside their homes and people dragged from their beds. Lions often select smaller dwellings where it is more likely that there will be only one person. People are also often attacked when visiting outdoor lavatories. To find a way to protect both people and lions, Prof Craig Packer and colleagues from the University of Minnesota report today in the journal Nature on an analysis of factors involved in lion attacks. They identified the control of bush pigs as the most promising strategy for curbing the attacks. About 39 per cent of attacks happen during the March-May harvest season, when farmers often sleep in their fields to protect their crop from the pigs. "The lions often follow the pigs in and pull people off the platforms on which they sleep," he said. "These lions are often close to starving and that can make them incredibly aggressive," said Prof Packer. "Once they have figured out that humans are food they will go into houses and drag someone out of bed, whether young mothers or old women asleep." The analysis showed that lion attacks are most common in areas outside wildlife parks with the lowest abundance of natural lion prey such as zebra, hartebeest or impala and the largest numbers of bush pigs, which are voracious crop pests. Pig-control strategies, such as protective ditches around fields, offer the best hope for reducing encounters between lions and people. These measures would reduce the need for village farmers to sleep in their fields. As for the fascination of lions for the Mercedes-built Smart car, as reported yesterday in The Daily Telegraph, Prof Packer speculated that the big cats find the Smart car to be the appropriate dimensions of something they could catch. "An SUV is definitely in the league of an uncatchable behemoth, whereas the Smart car is just in range." [link to news.telegraph.co.uk] xml=/news/2005/08/18/wlion18.xml |
Anonymous Coward 12/08/2005 10:08 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Re: African Animals to Be Introduced Into Americas Wild As Internal Destruction of United States Nears Completion So I guess this is what is going to happen to us! Lions and People Killing Each Other in Tanzania By Robert Roy Britt LiveScience Managing Editor posted: 17 August 2005 01:44 pm ET Lions have killed more than 560 Tanzanians since 1990, scientists announced today. The victims include children playing outside huts and people dragged from their beds, researchers say. So Tanzanians are killing lions in increasing numbers, as you might expect. The solution seems to be in controlling the pigs. Researchers conclude that bush pigs, an agricultural pest that drives out zebra, impala and other natural lion prey, are to blame. The lions enter villages searching for pigs and end up attacking people. More than 18 percent of the attacks are on children under age 10. More than two-thirds of the attacks are on adult men, who are known to sleep in their fields to protect crops from the pigs. Some of the attacks occur when villagers use outdoor toilets. The solution, the scientists say, is to control the spread of pigs. "People in the United States often tend to think of lions, tigers, etc. as cute and cuddly because we don´t know what it´s like to live with predatory animals who threaten us and our families," said University of Minnesota ecologist Craig Packer, who led the study. "That´s because 150 years or so ago, our ancestors in the United States killed off the most dangerous predators in the country." In other news today, a group of scientists proposed releasing lions, cheetahs and other predators from Africa into the wilds of America, to create a Pleistocene ecosystem similar to that which was destroyed by early human hunters. "We need to understand that Africans ... are responding in the same way our ancestors did," Packer said. "Most conservationists regret the way cougars and wolves were largely exterminated from the United States in the 19th Century, but we still have time to help Africans live with lions. Our primary concern is to protect people and their livestock without eradicating the lions. But people obviously come first." The Tanzania study is detailed in the Aug. 18 issue of the journal Nature. Tanzania´s human population has soared from 23.1 million in 1988 to 34.6 million in 2002. "Human population growth has led to encroachment into wildlife areas and depletion of natural prey populations, but attempting to sustain viable populations of African lions places rural people at risk of their lives and livelihoods in one of the poorest countries of the world," Packer and his colleagues write. "Mitigation of this fundamental conflict must take priority for any lion conservation strategy in Africa." [link to www.livescience.com] on_deaths.html |

No dissenting views are permitted. Thus, the gospel is silenced, parental values are undermined, and an impressionable child is doomed to engage in behavior that will often result in his or her eventual self-destruction.” (p. 51) As Newsweek writer, David Gelman, puts it, “At high schools around the country, multiculturalism has begun to embrace multisexualism…more students seem to be coming out, and they’re coming out younger.” (p. 50) “The indoctrination that takes place in our public schools has definitely had an effect in shaping teens’ attitudes toward homosexual behavior. In 2001, Zogby International released a poll that found that 85 percent of high school seniors thought homosexual men and lesbians should be accepted by society…….two-thirds thought same-sex marriage should be allowed. Even 80 percent of evangelical Christian students supported hate-crimes legislation, which in its many proposed forms, will be used to silence religious speech about homosexual behavior.” (p. 67) Universities are now actively recruiting homosexuals, in some cases “tailoring their student housing policies to support homosexual behavior and preferences.” (p. 76) At the same time, Steve Hayner, former president of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship reports, “We have had more challenges to our basic right to exist on campus settings during the past two years than in the previous fifty-five combined. It’s not just us—this is hitting Catholics and Muslims and others. What we are seeing is a growing challenge to religious free speech.” (p. 72) “While people of faith find themselves forced to put up with behavior that offends them, those who practice homosexual behavior are catered to, at the expense of everyone else.” (p. 77) [link to www.intellectualconservative.com] 520.html |

US Pest Control Workers Recruited By Police To Spy On Homes ORLANDO, Fla. -- One of Central Florida´s largest pest control companies has been recruited by police to help fight crime, according to Local 6 News. "Our point is not to invade people´s houses or make them feel like their privacy is being invaded. It´s just to try to have an extra set of eyes and ears out there," Truley Nolen worker Ronnie Rachels said. Technicians from Truly Nolen Pest Control of America are being trained by local law enforcement to spot anything unusual as they visit customer´s homes. "Our vehicles really get into the bowels of the neighborhood and we´re back there where all the homes are, in the cul-de-sacs," Truly Nolen spokesman Barry Murray said. "And part of being a good neighbor is looking out for one another." The pest control workers will call police if they see something unusual during their stops, according to the report. "The pest control technicians who are coming to your home to investigate termites don´t have any law enforcement capabilities, but if they see some two-legged creatures trying to make their way into your home, they´ll call the police." Local 6 News reporter Deborah Garcia said. "Our point is not to invade people´s houses or make them feel like their privacy is being invaded. If you have somebody that is getting ready to do something, the sooner we know they´re there the sooner we can be on our way to get to them."
