HAS ANYONE TESTED THE CALI RAIN???
It has been raining a lot more than usual in Cali ever since the Japan debacle. Im wondering if it has anything to do with the fallout. And has anyone or any organization actually tested our rain water to see if there is radiation?

I just put a post up with the following link a few minutes ago. UC Berkley tested it and it's positive for Iodine and Cesium. Here is the link...

U.S. rain water is going to lead to problems

[slightly technical] A nuclear engineering academic department scientist at a university in California has recently made public the concentrations of radioactive material found in rain water collected on the roof of a hall on a Berkeley campus. The values reported for March 19 were measurements of 5.61 Becquerels per Liter for Iodine-131 and 0.26 Becquerels per Liter for Cesium-137 (a sampling run ending on 3/20 found slightly lower levels of Cesium-137 and 7.1 Becquerels per Liter for Iodine-131.)

If our calculations are correct, and the units convert to 151 picocuries per Liter of water for Iodine-131 for the March 19th values, then each liter of tap water consumed at these levels will give affected Americans a thyroid dose of about 1 millirem (or 1,000 microRems). [NRC NUREG 1.109 rev. 1 Oct. '77 gives 0.0139 milliRems thryoid dose per pCi of I-131 for infants; and 0.00195 mRem for adults). We use average of 0.008 milliRems thryoid dose per pCi. ]

Basically it is saying that radioactive particles/fallout from Japan have been found in our rain water. I am no scientific expert and don't claim to be so I can't tell you much about the dose they calculated. I can however tell you from a health care professionals point of view that it is too much, any radiation on top of what we get from day to day life is too much. The cumulative effects are going to be what cause a problem because even miniscule amounts of radiation accumulate and grow in number the more exposure you have. So basically, this article is stating what the government isn't telling us, we have all been contaminated (or will be soon thanks to the food chain) with radiation from Japan.

Put a New Mason Jar out side to catch the rain falling right now. I am going to take two other samples from running gutter water and from a puddle. I will then take it to the local university and have it tested for Ce and Id.

Is anyone local going to test the water too. It would be nice to have some help her and see if we can't get some results from different areas.

if these numbers are accurate and my calculations are correct, shit is FUBAR

so this is saying a dose of 1milirem for every Liter drank.
I converted 1milirem to microseverts [link to www.google.com]

it is 10microseverts and if you check this chart you will see thhat that is the normal daily background dosage rates. [link to xkcd.com]

please check this out for yourself, did I miss something or is this legit??????

the average adults needs to drink 4L of water per day. So if you are drinking tap water you will receive 40uSv microseverts each day. This is 4 DAYS worth per day. Not sure what the extended consequence of that is.....anyone?

Or each time you drink a L of tap water, it is like getting 10 arm xrays or 2 dental xrays.

It's accumulative. It builds up and doesn't go away so that 10 microsieverts becomes 20 when you drink another liter and so on and so on. It might seem miniscule but when you drink, cook and bathe in it....AND, (it's a big and) eat contaminated beef, pork, grains and veggies that small number becomes a big number.

It's horrible.

Well.... Considering that radiation is prone to build up over time, and this is what looks to be the beginning of the event, we can expect radiation to slowly build up in our water supplies.

I'm testing it. Waiting on results. I'm the guy that experienced chemical smelling rain very metallic smell. I should get results in 8 days. Cost me some money but it'll be peace of mind. I will post results as soon as they come back on GLP. GLP rules and will get the results first hand so stay tuned.
