duh

Tokyo (CNN) -- Tests showed a sharp spike in levels of radioactive iodine in seawater just offshore of the embattled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant are more than 1,250 times higher than normal, Japan's nuclear and industrial safety agency said Saturday.

as if 100x normal was ok either...

water unsafe, veggies unsafe...

no waters fine, veggies eaten.

Taiwan? Not happy about getting radioactive product from Japan.
China? Banned.
USA? Banned.

Water is safe, drink it, go there, I will buy you a ticket 1 way doode.

"These high levels suggest there may have been some sort of leakage directly into the ocean -- unlikely to be because of atmosphere emissions or rain alone, said an official with the Tokyo Electric Power Co., which operates the nuclear plant."

I love how they always give snippets of doom, with paragraphs of b.s. lies telling everyone its ok.. "1,250 times normal, but will only have minimal effect on marine life"... Bull shit!

"In samples taken Friday morning from a monitoring station 330 meters off the coast, the levels were 50 becquerels of radioactive iodine per cubic centimeters of water. This compares to 4 becquerels -- which is 104 times above normal -- in samples taken from the same spot the previous morning. "

50 Becquerels/cc is 50,000 Becquerels/l!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The odd imaginary limit they made up for an adult is 300 Becquerels/l. So that is 167X... These are far shore numbers probably from a still working monitor beacon....

Just more confirmation that something has gone all wrong!! :P

China may just be a little more than pissed about this, we know Hong Kong and Taiwan were and they don't even come close to the Chinese. Japan the main island and all fishing for what, 1k miles at least is fucked and maybe it just will circle the world and enter the world food chain - that would do it. It would HAVE to enter the world food chain though, probably via oh, japan...

The Japanese rely on their fishing for food, and that is now fucked. There are many other countries who rely on that food, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, Auustralia, the other asia islands like the Philippines, etc.

I gave it 2 weeks. It's been 2. The Japanese have been caught sending radioactive produce to other countries. It has begun.

Ok, yesterday those three workers stands in radiation water 10000x normal levels. Now they got _in the freaking ocean 300m from the shore_ 1250 times the radiation! Sounds pretty bad when everyone know what happened to those three workers and this is not supposed to affect marine life? Bollocks. Whose gonna hospitalize all the poor fish?

They actually harvested and sent produce in the last 2 weeks since the disaster. Actually they sent it I believe 4 days ago. It showed up, of course they scanned it, and Taiwan put a ban up, then HK who also received, then China, then the USA. No imports of produce from Japan, rejected...and they export a ton of produce...only now its radioactive, not just irradiated to improve shelf life.

See you ruined it. I was hoping their shell somehow kept the radiation out, while it spontaneously allowed them to grow 10x their current size without any form of radiation (so long as ya boiled em for a good 15 mins) when you devoured em.

Anybody that has had a fishtank knows that adding even a little bit of chemicals or other toxic substances to the water isn't a good thing for the fish. Even just basic tap water can kill most fish. Marine life is super sensitive to changes. Obviously radiation which is already proven to be pretty bad stuff will have an affect on any life it comes in contact with. Anybody that says otherwise is flat out feeding you BS.

It's true. Even fish, or algae can toxify an area they live in - essentially killing all other sealife. Of course this is the worst case scenario having radioactive rods up in our ocean...but ok, lets try and deal with it.
