Simple really, their religion has taught them it is wrong, and they cannot see anything outside of it once being indoctrinated to it. I should know, I was like them once, but no longer. Oh and as far as how society pushes it in our faces, two things come to mind.

1. Maybe if we simply grew up and accepted people as they are, instead of forcing them into a box, it wouldn't be so in our face. I seem to recall racism against blacks was much the same in years past, this is not much different. It's about rights and equality for all, not just for some. Even those you may disagree with.

2. Don't let how the media may spin some of this be a reflection of who these people really are. They'd love for you to be divided, to hate them, they feed off that and maintain their control through it. What you may see on TV, hear on radio, or read in print, is not neccessarily going to be indictative of how those not being spotlighted truly are. In fact chances are, they hate the caricature they see defining them, as much as you hate these ideas being pushed on you. One would be wise to keep this in mind, and separate what you see put out for consumption, and who these people actually are apart from all of that.
