Fishy6 User ID: 1303150 Netherlands 03/28/2011 02:27 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You should drink about 1 gallon of water a day. The average use per person is about 80-100 gallons a day. So how much do you want to buy/store ? You are better off learning how to treat it although if you have a fallout shelter it might be a good idea to have some stored inside. Maybe 50-100 gallons or so or bury a cistern and fill it up ?? |

Good videos on yoube to make a natural filter in a empty bottle using grit, grass etc to settle out impurities (SP) if you can't get tablets of they don't work for your puropse etc. 50-100gallons a day is very excessive (you yanks everythings gotta be fecking huge) That is a quote for bathing etc. If the SHTF you can go on most important to least,i would'nt mind going with out pouring myself a huge bath to stew in my own filth. Drink it mostly would be my advice. Last Edited by mabb on 03/28/2011 02:34 PM |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1309790 United States 03/28/2011 02:39 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | An easy thing to do is start collecting empty 2 litre bottles, wash them out with hot soapy water and fill them. Use a water filter if you have one or just from clean tap water if you don't. Put in 5 drops of plain bleach (with no fragrance or other additives)per gallon using a medicine dropper. I am doing this now; I am allowing one 2 litre bottle per person per day plus one bottle for the 3 medium size dogs. I've noticed they drink about that much each day. Also buying bottled water where on sale, but for as much as I plan to store that could get expenive. Better things to spend money on, as I can store water in the 2 litre bottles right now. Need to get it done in the next few days while I can be fairly certain it is safe. If you plan on getting other people to save the bottles and give them to you, be prepared for them to show up wanting water when SHTF. Unless you tell them you plan to cut them up for some kind of weird craft project, or want to use them as mini greenhouses for your garden seedlings. Just a thought. |

Beyond that, unless you have a cistern or big water tank, start figuring out how you are going to filter it. Reverse osmosis is best, but there are others almost as good, such as a Berkey. You also would need a distiller to get as much of the remaining radioactive contaminants out. I understand that some of it dissolves in the water as gasses rather than particles and does not filter out. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 932179OP, The best thing to do is to stock up on this new type of water. It is actually dry - stored in a dry pak. It is therefore much lighter and easier to store. To use it, all you need to do is add water. |

There is no need to provide anything for yourself, as everything has been declared a "right", and will therefore be taken from those who have it, and given to those who don't deserve it (after removing 50% from the middle to support the bureaucracy) by the Regime. Don't run. You'll just die tired. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 932179I always keep water stored. I can our vegetables that we grow and as each jar is emptied of food, it is filled with water. You never know when/why you might need it. So yes, it would be a good idea to have water. I have not heard anything that leads me to beleive that the situation with the Japan is a great threat to our water supply - yet... I wouldn't panic. You'd be better off investing in a good filter than in a lot of water in my opinion. I'd be inclined to store in glass and to re-use appropriate household jars - juice etc... with tap water you've filtered - better use of your money. |
Psychotek Vigilantes need love too.... User ID: 1296535 United States 03/28/2011 04:28 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Here's my two cents, take it or leave it. Store as much DISTILLED water as you need for you and your family to survive for a few weeks. (Personally I like the 2.5 gallon containers that you can get at nearly any grocery store for about a dollar a gallon. Not only are they cheap, they have handles and are light enough for my daughter to even carry them, open and close securely and you only have to open one at a time.) This water is your drinking and cooking water. You'll have to gauge how long you'll remain in your present location or home. Many people in the cities really have no defendable space or renewable resources, so they'll be forced to venture out and therefore should only have about a week's worth of supplies. (Backed up with a plan that is...) Those people with good defendable land, gardens, livestock or even hunting abilities within their property can stay longer and therefore should stock more. Other water, which is stored in drums or rain barrels could be used as bathing and or cleaning waters. Develop a plan to obtain water from other sources. (Pools, creeks, solar stills, etc) Learn the proper techniques for water purification and buy the equipment to make it happen. It's not your supplies that will get you through the tough times ahead, it's your knowledge! Think of the old adage... If you give a man a fish, you feed him for the day. If you teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime. One of these days... A *REAL* rain is gonna come and wash all this scum off the streets. |
