I think the point is they claim the measurements are being taken 300+ meters off the coast. That is nearly a 1/4 mile. That is Plutonium in the sea as well...

Yes it will, and animals exposed to it will be dangerous to eat. Everyone is worried about the aerosols, someone needs to map the ocean currents and see where this shit is going to end up.
My advice is to check for radiation in food and drink before consuming with a good Geiger counter that you know is calibrated from this point forward, even if it has been in your cupboards. In my opinion eventually most of the mass of the fuel will end up in the environment if the reactions continue unabated and that's a tremendous amount of radioactive isotopes. The frightening thing about it is that some of the most dangerous isotopes have half lives in the thousand to 5 thousand year range.

We might actually kill the planet if many more reactors are damaged in this way, which I feel is highly likely in the coming 20months

OP I'm in western Alaska on the coast, a lot of people in town here including me have had headaches since the earthquake. I sometimes get migraines, but for the past week or so I've had like a low level one constantly. I got out today to run some errends and ran into a few people, they all complained of having headaches for the past week or so too... and these are tough people here, mostly fishermen and their tough fishermen wives. Most of the people I talked to don't watch much news but know what happened in Japan, but they ALL said they had a headache and weren't feeling well, and I didn't even say anything about my headache that has not let up.

Finally the other night on the Anchorage news they said radiation had been detected from the 3 monitors throughout the state (not out here though) but they said the levels were not unsafe at this time.

I wonder if we'll be very sick and dead out here soon.
