Question!! No assholes please~
If milk is being contaminated then I am not giving milk to my kids anymore either. No fish since oil spill either, nothing that comes from any water. If I start getting the powdered milk or liquid milk how long do you guys think we have before bottled water isnt good anymore? And is powdered or that little can of liquid milk(dont remember the name) better? Have the same nutritional values? And what about the others like silk and lactaid? Is soy ok or is that still milk? I really dont know :( so please no assholes, just real answers.. thanks in advance~

Re: Question!! No assholes please~
Buy water that says it is purified through reverse osmosis. If you can afford one get a reverse osmosis filter for you home. It's one of the only ways to filter this stuff. As for milk I am a mom also I am in the same boat. Milk on the shelves from the Midwest that's already shelved is ok. But not anything recently reshelved. Buy powdered milk from places out side of the jet stream currents. As for the long term may god be with you and your children. My blessings and best for your family, stay strong and diligent.

Dont be stupid girl! It is true that they can find traces of radioactivity in the US, but the amounts are tiny and absolutely no danger for you or for your kids! If you feel better then just avoid all sorts of seafood at the moment. And in general, don't believe a damn word you read on this website.

If you are really concerned about this tiny amounts of radiation you should never ever fly (scanners, high altitude) again because there you will get a lot more radiation.

Reverse osmosis CANNOT remove radioactive isotopes.
Please read up on this matter in order to avoid embarrassment and possible harm people that don't know.

It only takes water traveling through 3 feet of sand to purify it...

Until someone injects your aquifer with radiation directly, it's the safest water on the planet...

Water filter by activated Aluminim will remove floride and most heavey metels. As for iodine 131, it has a half life of about 9 days. If you buy powered milk and let is sit for a few weeks it should be safe. In fact most powered milk currently store shelves was proably packaged before TSHTF in japan.

Question: If unsafe levels of radation of any kind got into the food chain in the USA, would not the FDA ban or recall the items?

I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise. There is enough to worry about everyday already.

Dry powdered milk did have water in it at some point before being dehydrated.

Good thing about bottled water, as long as it's not just filtered water, and it is spring water, it is filtered out from under the ground.

The canned milk (Evaporated milk) also has water in it and is also loaded with sugar.

Soy milk, besides containing water, is not good at all, and don't let anyone ever tell you differently! If you have young boys, they will grow breasts because of estrogen dominance. It can also cause breast cancer later in life for your girls. The soy bean is a cattle feed, and not fit for human consumption!

If you're worried about the radiation in water, which I believe that is your main reason for asking for this information, the only safe one of the group would be naturally underground filtered spring water, or well water.

In 1999 I oput up 5 plastic coke syrup barrels of tap water and added 1 and 1/2 shot glasses of 5% chlorine bleach Chlorox. When I emtied them to move in Jan 2008 I would not have known they didn't just come out of the tap if I had not put them up. This was in a basement, dry temp never left 40-65 farenheit and sitting up on pallets covered over with black garbage bags. I drank some and necver had any ill effects. There is a way to use hydrogen peroxide for this too. Fior what it's worth.

The long expiration date is probably because it's been radiated at the factory and is essentially dead food.

Thanks you guys for the replys~ I dont knwo how to quote multiple posts so ill write it here lol

To the person saying they are trace amounts and thats nothing: I rather be safe then sorry. Yes therese radiation in pretty much everything, including my cell phone. But am I inhaling it? Or drinking it? Um no.. and what makes you think they are truthful about the amounts in it? If they told everyone its not safe no one would buy it and start panicking.. which they dont want.. they need the revenue as long as possible and dont want people freaking out. i dont trust them for shit.. if theres ANY in it at all Im good and not buying it for awhile. Better safe then sorry..

As for soy milk: I thought it was healthier? I know it does have the estrogen but I didnt know it would do that from drinking it.. maybe drinking alot?

As for powdered milk: I didnt stop to think that at one point it was liquid lol.. thinking ahead I guess.. So I guess I should look for ones that have been out on shelves longer then..

And for the guy wanting my milk: I finished breastfeeding my son january 9th. And yet still have milk and can squirt it a good 3 ft.. lol .. I guess I could always boost my milk supply and then milk myself lol. but if Im breathing the shit in the air and drinking the radiated stuff then im no more better then the damn cow Im trying to avoid lol..

ALSO, if its in the milk from the cows then wouldnt it also be in the meat???

Re: Question!! No assholes please~
Get a geiger counter and check the water and milk yourself before you use it. A true geiger counter, not a "radiation monitor." The scale on those is set too high to be of use for lower-level contamination.

Everything will not be contaminated at the same time.

Most bottled water is just local tap water - it hasn't been on the shelf very long, so it won't be uncontaminated very much longer.

Spring water and water from a well will be ok a little longer, but eventually it will be contaminated [to a lesser extent] as well... In fact it may be contaminated later and longer than regular tap water, depending on depth and rainfall at the source, etc.

Time is the best antidote. The longer the time from contamination with radioactive elements, the safer it will be, so have a couple of week's stock on hand, that you already know is safe - otherwise you'll have little choice but to drink questionable water.

Fallout will persist for a couple of weeks after they seal those POS leaking reactors. It will persist in the environment for a few months - but some places will not be contaminated as much. Once folk figure that out they will try to get their food/water/milk, etc from there - prices will spike, and nasty, unscrupulous folk will sell contaminated food to the unsuspecting.

Don't count on your government to tell you what is going on.

There really is not much to worry about for the milk issue. The radiation in the milk is from cows eating off the land that rained down very little radiation.

Once the skies clear, the radiation in milk will go away in about a week. Go to powdered milk for now if you are scared. But I do agree with you on the seafood. Not eating it myself. No way, no how.
