Anonymous Coward User ID: 673477 ![]() 03/31/2011 02:25 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Yes atleast 10000 years Quoting: skirmisherIn this nuclear accident the situation is complicated by an extra party — Tokyo Electric Power Company — with its corporate personality and internal agendas. TEPCO is embarrassed by this accident. Embarrassment, either corporate or personal, is a huge deal in Japan. It’s not like they can just give up their corporate face for a few weeks or months while necessary things get done. I saw a similar unwillingness to squarely face reality at General Public Utilities back at Three Mile Island in 1979. In both corporate cultures there was too much emphasis on political damage control — emphasis that often comes at the expense of good engineering. If a nuclear plant manager is worried too much about his job he isn’t worried enough about his reactor. There are right now two plutonium remediation technologies on offer to the Japanese government and TEPCO that I know about — one from Russia and one from the USA. One approach uses nanotech and the other uses biotech but both are novel and unique. Both have been offered to the Japanese through government channels and in both cases the Japanese government or TEPCO have yet to respond. [link to www.cringely.com] They have to give it a go, if its not working no harm done I know nothing about the tecnology proposed, but it sounds like a posability, nano tec and bio is not unheard of. The Japanese are a stubborn prideful group of people. Good luck getting a thank you if we clean this shit up for them...if that is even possible. |

RTS User ID: 1221068 ![]() 04/01/2011 03:48 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | nano-tech and bio-tech - Has anyone a clue what these two technologies are? All we read was that these two spproaches have been suggested to the Japanese.. But what exactly are they? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1314313here is a free e-book by Eric Drexler.. a pioneer in Nanotechnology [link to e-drexler.com] well worth the time to read it..it is interesting to say the least.. as is the progress that has been made since it was written Drexlers wiki page: [link to en.wikipedia.org] as far as the bio-tech goes..I don't have a clue Last Edited by RTS on 04/01/2011 03:56 AM |
