I have seen articles that claim the Katadyn Combi is capable of removing some radioactive material from contaminated water. I hope their right , I own one ( Combi ) myself.

I've wondered this myself. Is it time to break out my Big Berkey? Will it do the trick? Couldn't find anything relevant on the sales site.

Reverse Osmosis followed by something with a carbon core like a PUR pitcher for drinking and cooking.

The reverse osmosis run $137.00 at Lowes for the under the counter hook up or $499 at Home Depot for the whole house units.The PUR pitchers are only $15-17 dollars and available any where(this is the minimum I would do now,but the reverse osmosis is the best).

You want a ceramic filter. Great if you can add activated charcoal and reverse osmosis. But FYI, when things get to this point it's already too late. ;)

Berkeys filter out radiologicals. Furthermore, an earthen filter can do the same as well. Check out the US ARMY field manual for directions on how to build this simple filter.

I say it is not a filter you want...but a distilling rig. It'll take a lot of those solubles out, including Cs.

Well, I've got both "distilling rigs" and ceramic filters. Anything is better than nothing and with all the news of contaminated water supplies, everyone should have a backup.
