When I was in the U.S. with some friends we were driving through Arizona and we had to go through a highway checkpoint. The thing is, the cops used an existing construction-work set up, or set it up themselves to bottle-neck the traffic into one lane and they were waiting behind barricades. From the moment you saw the construction work signs, cones, merge-signs, etc. you couldn't see that it was a check-point ahead until it was too late, it was also at night which made it impossible to see them until the last minute. None of them had their lights on but there were about 15 cops out of their cars and I saw 2 people getting towed.
