GREAT LAKES DRINKING WATER: Have you noticed a weird alum-like taste? Itchy throat, dry mouth, diarrhea?
Since about last Sunday reports have been coming in re a weird metallic taste in the water supply in the Great Lakes area. I live on Lake MI and many people have been complaining about the following:

Metallic taste in water, excessive thirst- no matter how much your drink, itchy throat, strong chemical smell in water (more than usual), diarrhea, stomach cramps, gas, nausea, excessive drooling. If you stop drinking the tap water, many of the symptoms go away.

It's been reported not only by people who have their water supplied by Lake MI but also on the other lakes as well.

My son was taken to the hospital yesterday because of this and some other severe issues with vomiting. The nurses there told me they'd been seeing people complaining of the same symptoms for a few days. They prescribed him a strong anti-nausea med.

There have been no news reports about this. The EPA isn't even publishing the rad levels for this area-- just BLANK.

I wouldn't be drinking that water if I were you. I quit drinking tapwater about 12 days ago or so, fell back on some known clean reserves for now. Hoping they'll stop the Fuku radiation at some point. At least then the radioactive iodine and xenon-133 might decay in 3 or 4 months (even if not all other radioactive isotopes). If not, then I'll just die a little slower than some others.

we stopped drinking tap water a few days ago, stupid, I know (since we have water bottles stocked up). My father has a deep well on his farm that's not connected with the great lakes open resevoirs, from a deep underground source. I think we will be carting in water from his place because it doesnt have the same taste as the city water. It was also tested recently to be free of all pollutants (mostly because big agriculture is no longer an issue around here, due to the lack of farms/pesticides nowadays)

We've all actually been on lugol's iodine daily since last December (due to an iodine deficiency which is common in the Great Lakes area)...

We're not near Kazoo... besides, the way the currents flow, the oil would get into the surrounding groundwater, not flow back into the Lake...

Don't drink the tap water. Since we've changed to bottled for cooking/drinking, it's better. We haven't stopped bathing in it yet, though

I've noticed a funny taste in Chicago, but no health problems yet...
