Our forefathers who founded America were unbelievably insightful and forward thinking. And most were non-religious, Agnostic. Some were Atheist. They were an amazing crew.

And OP: You're female? Why were there so few female major players in politics, philosophy, society in general, arts, etc., throughout modern recorded history? Even today, most major artists are male, most major chefs are male, most philosophy was formulated by males, most of the hard sciences are male dominated, etc. etc. It couldn't be due to just discrimination. Males and females use their brains differently. Males seem to deal far better with the abstract and abstract thought than females. I think this is the dominant reasons why males dominate so many fields.

They were all saying that religion has no place in government, the very reason they seperated themselves from the church run government of England. They knew that religion has no place in running the country and therefore left it up to each individual state to decide.
The seperation of church and government is necessary to allow the people their own choice. Be Catholic, Jew, Protestant or atheist, the government has no place telling you what religion you must practice.
