Perot Family Gave to Tea Party Candidates in 2010
By DEREK WILLIS

H. Ross Perot, the Texas billionaire who received nearly 19 percent of the vote for president as an independent candidate in 1992, did not go out of his way to align himself publicly with the Tea Party movement during the 2010 midterm elections, despite the fact that the movement is organized around the principles of small government and fiscal restraint on which his campaign was based. But during six days leading up to the November elections, members of the Perot family contributed $172,000 to 22 Republicans running for the House, many under the Tea Party banner.

Those family members, including Mr. Perotís son, H. Ross Perot Jr., also gave $152,000 to the House and Senate Republican campaign committees from Oct. 21 to Oct. 26, according to Federal Election Commission data. (The way the names of contributors are entered on F.E.C reports makes it difficult to determine what amount of the donations, if any, are directly attributable to Mr. Perot himself.)
