People crack me up man! One minute, you all say you don't
need no protection from your Gov, and the next everyone is
wanting to file a lawsuit because they're not protecting you!

So, what if they came out and said how bad things really are?
OK, then what? How in the hell is that going to help anything?

If it's in the rain, then it's in everything, and no amount
of taking showers and scrubbing your ass with wire brush is
going to take that away.

So, everyone goes crazy buying up all of the iodide pills
around, and don't have a clue what they're doing, and going
to end up killing themselves anyway from an OD!

And just what have you accomplished with that post of yours? You are just as valuable as teats on a boar hog.

exactly. the jerk needs to really read up a little on iodine supplementation. people are not going to "od" on it. the jerk will wish he had tried to learn something about it one of these days instead of being such an uppity ass snob about it- thinking he is oh so much smarter.

...

You need to channel your ridiculous hate a little more constructively--blaming Obama? Really? He's probably not even in the loop on this stuff. And the former pres was 1000 times more incompetent. You should be criticizing the nuclear power industry, not some guy that came into the office 2 1/2 years ago. Nobody in the entire world was prepared for this, but the richies can run away--the rest of us can't. The republicans make us much poorer than the dems ever will, although, they are almost as bad.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1318319

NO, the AC is correct. Gov't is supposed to protect the public. It is Obama's responsibility to be 'in the loop' and to take action. Obama is doing nothing and he will be the sole person responsible for any disease and death that comes this way from the Fukushima fallout. He is the fricken leader of the free world and the the sole super-power. He is responsible for his inaction and the cover-up occurring.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 979114

i agree with you. he shows no leadership when it really counts. he acts clueless or maybe he just doesn't give a fuck. he is too busy swaggering around and posturing.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1338270

Soetoro aka Obama does what he is allowed to do, nothing more. Bush did what he is allowed to do, nothing more. Until everyone realizes these guys are nothing but Elite Puppets that are like actors to the people then we are going to keep fighting over who was worse than the other. They are actors. Stop believing what you and I would do. The Elite will not allow any word from Obama, Bush UNLESS they allow it. Kennedy tried to talk a bit too much and he was laid six feet under.

Re: Independent French radiation commission warns Europe that health risk from Fukushima fallout is “no longer negligible”
The rem is used to discuss biological absorption of the radiation. Since the rem is actually a large unit:

1000 millirem = 1 rem

source:
[link to www.jlab.org]

On converting cpm (the observed radiation) to rems (the absorbed radiation) I could only find this so far:

Considering a background given count rate of about 200 cpm, the expected surficial (1st centimeter) dose-equilavent rate at 1000 cpm is therefore approximated to be 6E-6 rem/h. Note that this is the estimated dose rate in the first centimeter and that the 1-cm "deep" dose rate would be lower by about 20 percent.

source:
[link to www.hps.org]

We need an expert to advise on this, because this text seems to suggest that when the background radiation detected from the geiger counter reaches 200 cpms, we would absorb MORE than the allowable limits for a year within one hour.

So far, in West L.A., the cpm's range from 48-68. Seems like getting out of town at about 100 cpms would be a good idea.

this is called "scientific notation"

1.6E-03 means 1.6 times negative ten to the power 3

The easy way is to move the decimal point the given number of places to the right or left. If the number is positive, move it to the right.
If the number is negative, move to point to the left.

here, the number is negative 3 so you would move the decimal point in 1.6 three places to the left, so it becomes:

0.0016

If the number wasn't negative but positive, i.e. if it was:

1.6E+03 then you would move the point three places to the right, so it becomes:

1600

What does scientific notation actually mean?

E+03 means "times ten to the power 3" or 10 x 10 x 10 which is 1000
so 1.6E+03 means 1.6 x 1000 which is 1600

In your example, 1.6E-03 means 1.6 times NEGATIVE ten to the power of 3 or negative 10 x 10 x 10 i.e. negative 1000.
so it means 1.6 x -1000 which is 0.0016

6E-6 would be about .000006 then?

On converting cpm (the observed radiation) to rems (the absorbed radiation) I could only find this so far:

Considering a background given count rate of about 200 cpm, the expected surficial (1st centimeter) dose-equilavent rate at 1000 cpm is therefore approximated to be 6E-6 rem/h (.000006/h). Note that this is the estimated dose rate in the first centimeter and that the 1-cm "deep" dose rate would be lower by about 20 percent.

This could definitely mess up the DOOM a bit, sorry. LOL

I spoke with my brother in OK yesterday. I told him about radiation in PA water and radiation in Little Rock milk. I asked him what this tells him....His response...That its not here. I said yea your right it just skipped over Oklahoma on its way to PA and Little Rock. He said TV says all is fine, I told him to believe what he wants. He asked if I got my info from tv or internet. I said internet, then he said, Oh ok. He is a sheeple 100%. Geez he is sooooo stupid.

By my lights, sounding the warning would be nice. Allowing the warning to be sounded by others would be marginally adequate. Suppressing the warning, by every: major US news media, 100% of both political parties and every member of the speakers bureau is unacceptable. Blocking posting of the warning on the internet, borders on homicide, or more particularly infanticide.

I am not a radiation dosimetry expert. Is it time to take the milk, lettuce and cream cheese away from the grandkids? It is not much about me. Anybody over 40 is too old to die from thyroid cancer. We just won't live long enough to develop the disease.

Would it be advisable for dairy cattle to be kept in the barn and fed grain & stored hay; for the duration?

Canned milk, powdered milk AND the long-shelf-life irradiated milk, may be much safer; for the duration.

Are the peas safer than the green beans, for the little ones.

Should pregnant women and nursing moms switch from their prenatal vitamins, that do not contain KI; to over the counter vitamins that do contain KI? Or should they take both?

The FDA MAX RDA is about 9X the Min RDA for potassium iodide.

Some, such as the lovely and erudite constitutional lawyer Ann Coulter, are embracing the, somewhat dubious, positive ‘opportunities’ from this vast radioactive fallout duststorm. Perhaps Miss Coulter has been retained as counsel.

[link to www.anncoulter.com]
[link to www.anncoulter.com]

Greetings, fellow participants in the 2nd Great Northern Hemisphere Hormesis (GNHH) experiment. Ann Coulter is our gracious host; while our proud sponsors are the General Electric Corporation (GE) and the Tokyo Elecric Power Company (TEPCO) Fukushima complex. GE “brings good things to life” and TEPCO, “emphasizing fine-tuned service, supports our comfortable lifestyle”. The 1st GNNH experiment was sponsored by the now defunct USSR at the Chernobyl, Ukraine plant. Those not wishing to participate are advised to relocate to Sydney, Santiago or Buenos Aires.

Today, the GNHH experiment families are separating into two groups, the ‘Maximizer’ Team and the ‘Controller’ Team. Maximizers should drink the rainwater, eat plenty of large leaf vegetables, purchase free range chicken, drink plenty of milk, eat shallow water fish, enjoy the cream cheese, and avoid alcohol. Expectant and nursing mothers should take their prenatal vitamins, without iodine (KI). Controllers should double their normal RDA multivitamin/mineral intake, purchase grain-fed chicken, drink bottled or well water, select the sharp (aged) cheese, order the canned peas and select well aged red wines.

Today, the Maximizers will be enjoying spinach and argula salad, borsht, oysters Rockefeller and the Kobe boeuf wellington with cream sauce. Maximizer desert dessert selections include cheesecake, cream puffs and berries in a rich cream sauce. Those insisting on alcohol will be served an excellent boujoule nouveau.

The Controllers will select a main course of arroz con pollo, grouper or Argentinian-Style Beef with Chimichurri Sauce. Soup choices will consist of consommé and lentil. A cucumber and olive salad, generously sprinkled with Reggianito will be served. Our featured dessert is Brigadeiros served with Brazilian Daterra coffee. Our vast selection, of finely aged red wines, will enhance your dining experience.

FUKUSHIMA Fallout

2. Hatonn here to set your minds at ease. I assure you, the situation can and will be safely resolved and there will be NO long-term damage! At the moment, however, it’s a matter of containment. Our scientists are filtering into the minds of workers at the facility and off-site personnel what actions to take to prevent meltdown of the damaged reactors—they would call that filtration process their “ideas” or “inspirations.” Our small crew near the facility in conjunction with off-planet crews are reducing radiation to the extent possible and the technology on the ships is helping to minimize the reactors’ activity.
