Unless the tincture of iodine is diluted by an entire glass of water, the immediate area that comes in contact with the iodine will suffer loss.

Tincture of iodine and povidone iodine USED to be used all the time to kill bacteria in questionable water when camping or hiking. Now a bleach derivitive is used more commonly.

Why do you need to dilute it with water if you're just applying it to your skin?
