Wow, didn´t realize... thought all was well.

Look at it this way - slow rising flood waters are merely an expensive nuisance. No one is going to die in waters rising as fast as when you fill your own bathtub.

And if they can´t swim to safety, then Darwinian evolution will just have to take over as always.

Correction.....alligators, crocodiles, fire ants and poisonous snakes are all moving through this water.....as well as live electrical lines.

Sad, my heart goes out to anyone who has endure such nastiness. I heard some people were stuck in their attic and couldn´t reach their roofs needing to be cut out/rescued. Bad news. I don´t know New Orleans. Can such a breach of the levy as it is, seriously fill the whole city? From a cross section on the news earlier today, it looked like it wouldn´t necessarily flood the whole thing at once, like there was some higher ground in the center or something.

They said the breech in the levee is two blocks long and the water in the city is rising 1 inch every 5 minutes. They are thinking they will have to evacuate the hospital at the Tulane University because of the rapidly rising water.

I saw the highest ground in New Orleans a few years ago. Not included any buildings, the highest ground is a dirt mound at the New Orleans Zoo. They were digging out a pond for some attraction and piled all the dirt in one mound. Well someone realized that this mound was now the highest natural elevation in the whole city, albeit it a man made dirt pile. They place a sign in front of the mound proclaiming it as the highest elevation. They probably just didn’t want to pay to have it hauled away. I wonder if that mound is still there now!
