What the lights NEVER go out inside the shuttle? They just sleep in brightly lit cabin?

They may turn the lights out at some point and get a look at the stars, but for the vast majority of the time they're on the flight deck they need it well lit up there. The mid-deck has no windows. Funny how it doesn't affect their view of the Earth, just their view of the universe.
