Nearly 600 feared dead as overcrowded Libyan refugee ship sinks off coast of Tripoli while Nato air strikes resume

An overcrowded ship carrying 600 people to safety from the besieged city of Misrata sank just outside the port of Tripoli.

Witness accounts given to the UN Refugee Agency told of bodies of passengers floating in the sea alongside parts of the broken-up ship.

The bodies were passed by people in other boats as they made their own escape, with other refugees seen swimming for the shore. ......
