Why does it seem that models of today are sooo much cuter? I wonder how models will look 40 years from now? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 810307Yes I think so..they will only get hotter |

A few hundred years ago fat woman were more attractive then the slim ones, from their point of view... If you have not made peace with the self, if you do not live in peace self-sustainably in your being, then what do you have to offer to another? How then can peace come to be for the world, if you are not willing to seek it within? -Eliakim |

Just like in the medieval times, heavy people were "cute", and the rail thin skeletons we have as "models" would be considered to be disgusting, poor, ugly wretches. Every generation thinks theirs is the "cutest". No more requests in the "Strangest things" thread please. :hf: Past Lives requests thread: Thread: That Which Once Was: Past Lives |

Changes in nutrition, medical procedures and plastic surgery (like others have mentioned) have an impact. In 1950 a wasp -waisted figure and a slightly fuller face were preferred. Now a more athletic/less curvy and angular face seems to be preferred in women For men a less bulky build and androgynous features seem to be preferred. I don't think people have changed as a species. What you are perceiving is a change in fashion rather than an actual, physical change. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1361116 United States 05/10/2011 02:43 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It wasn't that long ago that girls wanted to be short, so they were shorter than there dates. To be short was an atribute for a girl. Now, everyone wants to be tall, mostely I think for prescense and also to carry weight better. Back then, girls were short and had small feet (another attribute) and a very small waist. Now they're tall, size 9 is considered "normal" and the waist doesn't seem to be as small, more of a boyish figure (even if they are big busted). It's just what the media has brainwashed everyone into thinking is "hot". It will change again one day, too. The media tried to push it with Sarah Jessica Parker and that's when the push back happened. Some bought into it but most were thinking "no way", what's the fuss about? It depends on whose children or mistresses are looking for a career, if they have a certain look that is different then TPTB will start making that the "in" thing. Conspiracy's are really everywhere. |

So, yes, people are much better looking today than 40 years ago. More dark haired blue eyed combinations which used to be rare and today is seemingly very common and is such a great look. |

Some bought into it but most were thinking "no way", what's the fuss about? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1361116Oh dear god did you have to drag that into it, it is the reason I quit buying fashion magazines altogether - seriously, I couldn't bear to have her face on the page, and it was everywhere, that was years ago and it still is, so disturbing. At one point Vogue sent me a really cheap renewal option like 12.00 a year, and the ad had 3 covers, one Sarah Jessica Parker, one Michelle Obama, and one Angelina Jolie. I might have taken advantage of the low price but the featured individuals summed up everything that is wrong with fashion magazines today and I threw it out. I want to read about the designers and the clothes, not some celebrity gossip garbage or watered down politics. I want pictures of beautiful women wearing beautiful clothes, it's pure pleasure, pure hedonistic escapism, plus some practical wardrobe advice. Instead you get pharmaceutical ads and ugly girls and trash gossip. Gave up on the whole genre entirely, and I used to be a good customer. Fuck it. I'll make my own fashion magazine before I'll buy theirs again. |

With the latest generation, the addition of surgeries of every type, botox, cosmetic dentistry and the list is long - how can one even know the true looks of many people? Looks are relative when all is said and done. |

That's the primary feature that I see different. The girls don't look any different, except there a few who were more personalities, than beautys on this list. Women had more hair choices back then, most guys only like long hair -that may be the difference. [link to www.squidoo.com] Here's the girls of 2011 (I don't think there any prettier than the ones of the 1970's, but I'm not a guy) [link to www.askmen.com] |

Is the average person better-looking? People today have a lot more leeway in acceptable hairstyles and clothes. Even growing up in the 50's I would look at people and think they would look so much better if certain things were stylish. I can never look at those first James Bond movies and think Sean Connery was good-looking when he was young...the 60's styles didn't suit him at all, imho. Same with many of the female stars with the rocket-bra boobs. |
