Kinda makes sense whhat Merv King was going on about today .... with the price of oil etc going through the roof would lead to silly rises in inflation.

I am assuming that the UN, NATO, US will succeed in Libya, Eygypt and all the other nations that were for the gold as currency theory, like they were in Iraq and Saddam. So not much to worry about.

I suspect it is not the fact that he wants to use gold, so much as he does not want to use US dollars. Look what happened to Saddam Hussein when he went over to using Euros on the Iraqi oil bourse. The US got all curly lipped and started throwing their weight about. Look at the threats Iran has faced since it became known that they wouldn't trade oil in US dollars any more. Now, if Libya goes over to gold or even Euros, that puts the US's nose out of joint even more. Finally, China, which buys in a huge amounts of oil, obviously does not want to pay for it in dollars.

The US Dollar can only survive if it is an international currency. The trouble is, the international community don't want it any more because it isn't worth the paper it's printed on. The Euro is also on the slide into oblivion, so look out for the major financial crash that has been hanging over us all for a couple of years now. Soon!
