6 mo old to begin eating 'cereal' what is safe/good to give her?
I'm willing to bet that 'gerber' instant baby cereal is full of things I don't necessarily want her to be ingesting.

I can get to a wholefoods or a fruitful yields or even a trader joes if necessary, but I need some suggestions, I'm not sure what to start her on.

No refined sugars, OP. The grains are not great either. Pay a professional alternative nutritionist for help.

We gave our teen natural, organic cereal (when they were a baby). Trader Joe's is a good place too. We have an organic grocer co-op in our neighborhood and that's where we shop. Why some people are terrified of what our ancestors fed us (grains), is just brainwashing at its best.

If your baby is allergic to grains, of course don't feed it to him/her, but ours loved the rice cereal and liked the oat cereal too. I mixed the cereal with whole fruits that I prepared in a blender. We have a strong, healthy teenager who did very well with whole grain baby cereal, so don't let anyone scare you away from them.

I don't know if your little one is already eating fruit...

I didn't start solids with cereal, smashes ripe bananas are full of nutrients and easy to digest...ripe...not fermenting, just ripe.
Smashed ripe avocado is another easily digestible food full of nutrients.

You can also mix the smashed banana in cereal and add liquid if need be...
make sure whatever cereal is given is loose and easy to swallow, as sometimes it gets stuck/clogged in babies throat, being too dry and thick.

Eat nothing from wal-mart. Definite GM risk there, oh yes.

Avoid all corn (diabetes risk) and soy (synthetic estrogen risk) products, bad for humans.

A fair questino and I'll give an honest response.

Parenting forums tend to be full of yuppy suburban mom tpes who are immersed in the 'system' and only know what their pediatricians or the MSM tell them about their childrens health.

GLP has a large female population that tend to be more holistic about some of their views.

At least that is my perception having read both GLP and some other mainstay parenting forums.

Hence, I tried posting here.
Sure i'll have to sort through the responses and decide for myself, but I figured I'd get a broader spectrum of opinion, plus GLP is way more trafficked than some of those parenting forums.

I want to do some shopping this afternoon.
not next weekend.

Being told by a GLP nutter? Jeez.

First, find some rice cereal, that's the first stage of grains. But I would put a tablespoon of bananas in it. Bananas first, peaches second, pears and plums last.

Then move on to barley, with fruit.

THEN oatmeal.

You don't have to get Gerber, but cereal is fine. Don't listen to this gluten nutbag. Not everyone is allergic to gluten and yet millions have eaten from infancy. Heck, they used to tell you to give babies cereal out of a feeder bottle. While some are gluten allergic, not all are.

Re: 6 mo old to begin eating 'cereal' what is safe/good to give her?
Look up how to make your own baby food. You can make a batch, freeze it in ice cube trays (baby serving sizes, lol) and it will be fresh. Start with bland fruits and veggies (bananas, peas, green beans). Better to start w/veggies because the fruits are usually preferred and it may be harder to get her to eat the veggies if she has a strong preference for the fruit.

Cereal isn't necessary, just what we're groomed to want. White rice is mostly gmo (nasty stuff, too).

the cereals best tolerated by people today are spelt, kamut,
sprouted bread.
most people digest this without having an intolerance for them.
rhye, wheat, oat etc are all GM cereals and create only problems in the body so these are really to be avoided at all cost

You people are retarded. You believe the establishment when they tell you that healthy, whole grains are bad for you, and yet you also believe them when they con you into consuming the poisonous weed called Soy! Unbelievable.....

There is nothing wrong with oatmeal or cream of wheat. Oatmeal is a household favorite around here, and we're all healthy folks in our family. None of us are overweight either, and I'm 40 years-old, and am always mistaken for 20-something. When I had my blood pressure tested last week, it was 110/77, and by social standards, I'm "old", at 40, AND, I don't have high cholesterol, even though I'm an avid meat-eater. And guess what's the main part of my diet??? Whole grains and oats! And yes, I drink milk (low-fat).So stop the grain fear-mongering crap already.
