"Spanish sky survey La Sagra discovered a new object with temporary designation 15LB160. This asteroid is likely to be classified as potentially hazardous (PHA), the minimum distance of the intersection of its orbit with the orbit of Earth is 0.044 AU, body diameter about 450 meters..."

This is probably it. Note 77 Observations over 1 day, first Obs 5-21-2011.

Isn't that great? A new Near Earth Object, 450 meters in diameter, pops up on Saturday, has a Close Approach this Saturday night, and is currently only 0.1445 AU away....

This is the umpteenth time we're wise, or nearly, after the event. HOW MANY MORE are these unknown critters out there??
It's hardly reassuring since NASA is no longer in this game, leaves it now to amateurs to tell what they see. And look at the SIZE of it!!! Not a wimpy comet but almost as big as YU55!
You have to ask - what next?

According to the orbit diagram, May 29th is the closest approach at .077 au

Hopefully, it will be a safe but near flyby. However, what's alarming is the short notice of this frightening thing, a sort of space tornado. It's also interesting that this info was posted on spaceorbs by Leonid Elenin, but of course he hasn't discovered THIS one!
And if ANOTHER unknown arrives when 'comet' Elenin gets closer, then damage will be much more probable. And Elenin starts to speed up by mid July - you can check that out on the JPL data base.
Indeed, we might not have to wait until September for something horrible to happen, but of course NASA would tell us nothing, just like today of this event for Sunday!

But what about the effect of the object's gravitational pull on us, or even the possibility of it striking our moon? (As you can tell, I'm an astronoob.)

T bar are these your own youtube uploads or are you linking them from someone else?
If they're yours what program do you use to describe and show the data?

the program shows everything in so much more detail, and with all the multiple bodies,planets,comets, rocks etc interacting, I bet it's expensive and not availavle for your average jo.

If you look at the neo jpl list, we have 2 for 26th, 1 for 27th, 1 for 28th and 1 for 30th this month! That's FIVE consecutive days. Already the past few days have had some grotty events down here - tornados, eruptions, landslides - so don't be surprised if more destructive events are to come for the rest of this month?
Then we enter June with possibly a mystery object cropping up on the 1st, if the 2007 crop circle prediction turns out to be correct.
