Two New Elements Join the Periodic Table
[link to blogs.discovermagazine.com]

On Wednesday, two new elements were officially welcomed to the periodic table.

The newcomers are elements 114 and 116, and they’ve just passed a three-year deliberation by the Joint Working Party on Discovery of Elements, a team of chemists and other scientists who sort through the evidence behind claims of newly discovered elements. These two don’t have official names yet, and for now they are going by the placeholders ununquadium and ununhexium, which refer to the number of protons in their nuclei.

The team that discovered 114 and 116 has been putting together a case for their discovery since 2004, when collaborating groups at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Russia and the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California started ramming calcium nuclei (20 protons) into curium nuclei (96 protons) to see what would happen (answer: element 116). 116 decayed almost immediately into two protons and 114, which they also made from scratch by replacing curium with plutonium, which has 94 protons.

What’s the Context:
The last element officially added to the table was element 112, copernicium, in 2010, after a series of experiments beginning in 1996 demonstrated its existence.
Elements 113 and 115 are still unaccounted for (the numbers stand for the number of protons in the nucleus, not order of discovery, so there’s nothing particularly odd about this). Researchers have submitted reports on these elusive elements, but the committee decided that there wasn’t enough evidence to declare them found.

Re: Two New Elements Join the Periodic Table
This is SO cool!

Just yesterday I was sitting around partying with myself and was thinking about elements. I was saying how there are types of demons who are elements that haven't even been discovered yet, heck I said, the chemical table is practically empty compared to all the elements out there in between worlds.

And here I am today, reading haha that scientists have just discovered two new elements. The numbers 114 =6 in numerology and 116 = 8.

And another weird thing, while I'm here...the number 8, the "magician's hat" the symbol for infinity... a couple of years ago I decided I was ready to tackle the number 8. I knew it was going to be difficult and I hadn't known what could happen. Just had to do it. My nephew was already done with it...he's a genius...and so I told him I would now tackle that one. Last night I knew I had finished with it. Because on Thursday I was looking at two spiders dancing in front of my doorway like two trapeze artists. It was amazing. They were those yellowish-white spiders with a well balanced body and legs. Then I was at a restaurant on Friday night in the outdoor patio when a same species spider came sliding down a web from one side of the building, right in front of me so I had to tell my date not to kill it, just let it go...and I watched it slide all the way down to the ground. Then while reading this, haha, a same species, that yellow-white color spider, just walked across my computer table.

Well yesterday I was curious to know what these beings mean, and I looked up the spider in the animal totem. Well, their number is the 8. And so, I knew my task with the struggle of the 8 was over.

And just as I was talking to myself yesterday about the elementals, gad, there in the numbers of the elements, the base of, 6, and, 8... (six is a number of responsiblity, 8 the number of industry)

Just great stuff, thanks.

How can you even consider something an element if it can only stay in existence for a fraction of second?

and we all know why element 115 was decleard not enough evidence!!! because its used in reverse engineering UFO propulsion systems... good old ununpentium.

There is another theory mentioned, which states that this has already happened.

Now all we need is Element 115.

************

Bob Lazar stated that the “Sport Model” Flying Disc amplified the “Strong Nuclear Force” of Element 115 (UnUnPentium or UUP) to generate the gravity field for “Space-Time Compression.” Bob also stated that the U.S. Government had 500 pounds of Element 115 in their possession.

Re: Two New Elements Join the Periodic Table
That is cool! The other new thing with the periodic table is that they are trying to change it to include pie graphs of the isotopes that they use to calculate the atomic weights. So you can see what percentages of each are believed to exist.
I thought it was kind of a cool idea...I taught chem this year to some High School/Jr. High aged home schoolers and they kept asking me all these questions about the weights and why they weren't just whole numbers and how they decided which isotopes and what percentages. It would be cool to just see it laid out.
