Yes we do. I'm close to the AZ border and getting covered with smoke from the Wallow fire about now. I was wondering if this cuts down on the UV rays any. Can an expert here tell me that?
 Quoting: Sweetshrub

I would guess yes because it would be similar to a mineral coating...? A form of block...against UA? UV?

Yes, and now you guys who have been outdoors all day, cool bath, happy thoughts and lots of water. Also load up on those free radical neutralizers, your friends, the antioxidants:

[link to www.healthchecksystems.com]

How Antioxidants May Prevent Against Free Radical Damage

The vitamins C and E, are thought to protect the body against the destructive effects of free radicals. Antioxidants neutralize free radicals by donating one of their own electrons, ending the electron-"stealing" reaction. The antioxidant nutrients themselves don?t become free radicals by donating an electron because they are stable in either form They act as scavengers, helping to prevent cell and tissue damage that could lead to cellular damage and disease.

Vitamin E ? The most abundant fat-soluble antioxidant in the body. One of the most efficient chain-breaking antioxidants available. Primary defender against oxidation. Primary defender against lipid peroxidation (creation of unstable molecules containing more oxygen than is usual).

Vitamin C ? The most abundant water-soluble antioxidant in the body. Acts primarily in cellular fluid. Of particular note in combating free-radical formation caused by pollution and cigarette smoke. Also helps return vitamin E to its active form.

The Antioxidants and Disease Prevention

Heart Disease ? Vitamin E may protect against cardiovascular disease by defending against LDL oxidation and artery-clogging plaque formation.

Cancer ? Many studies have correlated high vitamin C intakes with low rates of cancer, particularly cancers of the mouth, larynx and esophagus.

The Lesson: Eat Your Fruits and Vegetables!

The antioxidants are believed to help protect the body from free-radical damage. But before you go out and stock your pantry with mega-doses of these vitamins, be warned: more is not always better. The long-term effect of large doses of these nutrients has not been proven. Other chemicals and substances found in natural sources of antioxidants may also be responsible for the beneficial effects. So for now, the best way to ensure adequate intake of the antioxidant nutrients is through a balanced diet consisting of 5-8 servings of fruits and vegetables per day.

I am in Western North Carolina in the "blue dot" surrounded by purple. Wonder why we are having higher UV than anywhere else in our area or surrounding states?

I'm very close to your dot in Greenville and have noticed the intenseness of the sun over the last week.

I say this comparably to the Floriduh sun I'm used to, I have burned here far quicker than I ever did in the sunshine state.

Re: Holy CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!! Look at the UV index for today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
From epa.gov:

-------------------------------------
Regardless of the UV Index, the following sun safety measures are always encouraged:

Do Not Burn.

Avoid Sun Tanning and Tanning Beds.

Generously Apply Sunscreen to all exposed skin using a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of at least 15 that provides broad-spectrum protection from both ultraviolet A (UVA) and ultraviolet B (UVB) rays. Re-apply every two hours, even on cloudy days, and after swimming or sweating.

Wear Protective Clothing, such as a long-sleeved shirt, pants, a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses, where possible.

Seek Shade when appropriate, remembering that the sun's UV rays are strongest between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Use Extra Caution Near Water, Snow and Sand as they reflect the damaging rays of the sun which can increase your chance of sunburn.

Watch for the UV Index.

Get Vitamin D Safely through a diet that includes vitamin supplements. Don't seek the sun.

Beach goers should know that white sand reflects UV and DOUBLES the effect.
--------------------------------------------------------

So the EPA is flat out telling America to avoid the sun at all costs all the time, and never seek it out again, like vampires. That IS what they are saying. Good lord.

BTW, I spent the day at the beach between 11-3 today.

Saved some information on the effects of being exposed to radiation from electronic communications equipment and the symptoms you gave are exactly the same! Radiation is radiation no matter the source! If the magnetosphere has been damaged, as the scientists say, its going to get very hot in lots of places! Weather Channel reported today the the number of high temps and record high temps for the year 2011 is 10 times higher than any year since they've been keeping records!

Hmmm - And here I am as a musician, frying on a flatbed truck playing in all of these holiday parades during the hottest part of the day (11:00 - 2:00)...

And sunscreen will cause just as much damage, so I figure just let the "sun shine in" and at least I'll get the vitamin D3 with all the skin cancer.

Rats.

It is my understanding that the pollution from the NE moves into the heart and basin of Appalachia and settles there. This is supposedly one of the fastest growing ozone depleted areas in our country.

That may explain the intense UV radiation we are seeing in this area.

No, it looks like that has to do with the quantity of ozone in the air. I don't know enough to know for sure if it's related, but I do not think it is. Maybe someone else can comment.

Here are some links for ya.
Ozone Forecast:
[link to xapps.enr.state.nc.us]

[link to www.airnow.gov]

FAQ's

What is ozone?
Ozone is a colorless gas found in the air we breathe. Ozone can be good or bad depending on where it occurs:

* Ozone occurs naturally in the Earth’s upper atmosphere (the stratosphere), where it shields the Earth from the sun’s ultraviolet rays.
* At ground-level, ozone is an air pollutant that can harm human health.

Where does ground-level ozone come from?
Ground-level ozone is formed when two types of pollutants react in the presence of sunlight. These pollutants are known as volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and oxides of nitrogen. They are found in emissions from:

* Vehicles such as automobiles, trucks, buses, aircraft, and locomotives
* Construction equipment
* Lawn and garden equipment
* Sources that combust fuel, such as large industries and utilities
* Small industries such as gas stations and print shops
* Consumer products, including some paints and cleaners

Atmosphere and magnetosphere are both weak and not up to the task. It's not just UV, by the way - you'll also get microwaves, x-rays and cosmic rays. That's what's wiping out plants and animals worldwide.

Here are some symptoms to watch out for in yourself and others: ear-ringing, pressure headaches, 'night sweats', damage to immune system, abdominal discomfort, swollen thyroid, skin rash, occasional dizziness, shortness of breath, nausea, lethargy, sleeplessness at night, and eventually brain damage, strokes and heart attacks. Also, gametes, eggs and sperm are more likely to suffer DNA damage and cause mutations.

Good luck.

Thanks, and that makes sense. Would you happen to have a link for that info? I would love to read it.
 Quoting: ~fish out of water~

Nope. This isn't easy to figure out, nor do TPTB want people knowing this is going on. When those eight people sickened at the beach, when it was only 88 degrees, did they mention this? Hell no. People would panic.

You'll have to dig it all up the hard way, same as I did. Research the health effects of those types of radiation first. Look at your microwave shielding - a grid. How do they spray the braium-infused chemtrails? Between us and the Sun, and in a grid.

So, I was having some of those symptoms - the ear-ringing, pressure headaches, and the night sweats, so I did a test. I put up a metallic grid plus some aluminum shielding between me and the sky. Poof, symptoms disappeared and haven't returned.

Without our normal planetary protection, we are astronauts. Research what astronauts do to protect themselves - aluminum is what they mainly use, though gold and large quantities of water would probably work better.

And notice when the animals drop dead, they're always so fast to declare them safe to eat. That's because A) they know what's killing them; and B) the radiation doesn't make them unsafe to eat, it just kills them.

Also, check out the rise in violence, worldwide. The brain damage manifests many different ways. Depression, dementia, speaking gibberish like those reporters (that's damage to the speech center of the brain), schizophrenia, personality changes and psychosis. Apparently the psychosis is pretty common, which may mean we WILL have something like a zombie apocalypse, as more peoples' neurology succumbs.

By all means, no need to believe me. You can bet your life that I'm wrong if you wish. Me, I'm just gonna stay under shielding and see what happens. Better safe than sorry when it's my brain and internal organs, is the way I'm thinking.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1417258

Wow, thank you so much for taking the time to post all of that! I will indeed do my own research, especially because I have many of the same symptoms (ears ringing, headaches, and additionally a strong aversion to being outside during the daylight hours). I've felt for some time that something is not right, and this could very well be the piece of the puzzle I've been missing. Thank you!

Before sunscreen was even available as a product, I was a landscaper. I used lots of Vit. E. oil mixed in with coconut oil on my skin. I wore a hat and sunglasses, but my skin was exposed very much. shorts and no sleeves.

did it for decades. my skin is pretty good. i have more damage from scars from tree branches than any sun damage.

try that.

Plants are suffering too, I assure you. Do some searching on tree die-offs and you'll see they've been occurring, and escalating. Crops too. 40,000 acres of wheat died off in Oregon last year, though the plants that were shielded from the sun by stone boundary walls and such did live. I've seen the signs in all of the plants around my home (and there are many, as I'm one of those green thumb types and love plants). Orange blotches on my apple tree leaves, withered forsythias, veggies that don't do as well as they have in the past, etc. I've got lava rocks around the base of all my perennials now, to help shield at least their roots.
