Are men naturally monogamous or polygamous? what's your take?
"Out of 185 investigated indigenous societies untouched by Western civilization only 30 were monogamous. This would imply that men are polygamous by nature, and having multiple sexual parters at one time would be the natural state for a man. This would also mean that fidelity for a man to only one woman is an invention of civilization and thus a unnatural state for a man."

What you think?
This is the fate of man. He must strive for that which he cannot attain. He must believe in that which he cannot prove. He must seek that which he cannot find. He must travel a road without knowing his destination. Only thus can the purpose of life be fulfilled.

For I tell you, God will not do things you are too apathetic to do for yourselves.

At different stages of your journey you need different partners, I'm a serial monogamist, as one door closes, another opens...

polyamourous.
We're designed to wanna procreate and produce as many successful offspring. We see this principle everywhere in nature.

What is strange though, is how when homosapien's ancestors started forming groups, and because of our ancestors not having "litters" of fast growing spawn we grew one slowly maturing creature. So females changed the dynamic to ensure THEIR ultimate genetic survival, they would only give sex in exchange for love and nurturing (or food and protection for them really). And the men would give love and nurturing in exchange for sex.

It's messed up to think maybe all this time we have been forcing upon us some unnatural state of existence. But at the same time isn't evolution itself the event of something unnatural being forced upon you until your genetics adapt to it?

If polygamy is natural, is forcing ourselves to be monogamous really worth it? after all it's merely a judeo-christian paradigm, some people live without it and are perfectly ok.

I am not taking sides just arguing for the sake of hearing arguments.

Yeah but in society if we permitted Polygamy the population would explode even more then it already has.

And that would suck for everyone.

Polygamy is an efficient way to balance selective reproduction with reproduction rates in a situation where a human group is in balance with it's environment over a long period of time.

It's simply a cultural adaptation that promotes survival and fitness.

I've been consciously trying to subdue my sexual nature for years, I am starting to believe it's impossible.

And yes, it's a damn shame, but truly sometimes I think if the creator wanted us to reach an enlightening spiritual state he should have made it just a tad easier with the sexual urges thingy.

Anyways given that most people won't be able to crave for sex, and that the world is overpopulated as shit, I extend a call to everyone to just use a damn condom.

That's another issue, maybe being true to our natures is not the best idea.......

After all the purpose should be to find the most beneficial ways to exist, not because their natural but because they are beneficial.

SO having that in mind, what is the most beneficial, polygamy or monogamy?

Monogamous.

You ever TRY and have a polygamous relationship? UGH.

Seriously. Too much work. The IDEA is great, the application is murder.

Re: Are men naturally monogamous or polygamous? what's your take?
The primal nature of man may well be rooted in many behaviors that are damaging- that is why we have free will to make rational and beneficial choices and the brain power to understand the consequences of going primal. We rise above our tribalism, our mob rule, petty violences and embrace a rule of law, morality and family. We replace the short term thinking of instant gratification and replace it with long term thinking and the joys of family, peace and security. Mankind are naturally what we choose to be, which is why we have impulses AND the ability to use our brains.

Re: Are men naturally monogamous or polygamous? what's your take?
I think with overpopulation things have changed so drastically yet some people still want to live as if we were in ancient palestine or something.

This tendency of having a family for the sake of having a family I don't understand sometimes, I myself don't wish to have a family just because it's supposed to be so. I take into consideration my environment and the current situation of my world before deciding such thing, most people just seem to go in automatic mode regarding this.

I think we have to start thinking how we have to live in a globalized, overpopulated world, and not through the values of peoples who lived in an underpopulated fragmented ancient world but with values that correlate with the current paradigm.

What are the most beneficial set of values for today's world? I think it's worth thinking about it.

Got some news for you, the world has changed. Now if you can ask God how should we adapt to the new situation I am willing to listen, otherwise we are the ones in charge of finding a new paradigm that fits.

Or else we will destroy ourselves....
