I read the Koran every day says Tony Blair who claims it keeps him 'faith literate'
[link to www.dailymail.co.uk]

He was notoriously reluctant to discuss religion while Prime Minister, with his chief spin doctor Alastair Campbell famously commenting: ‘We don’t do God.’

But since leaving Downing Street in 2007, Tony Blair has become increasingly open about the importance of religion.

Mr Blair, who converted to Catholicism months after leaving Number 10, has now spoken of how he reads the Koran every day.

Reading the Islamic religion’s holy book - considered by Muslims to be the exact words of God - ensured he remained ‘faith-literate’, the former Labour leader said.

In an interview with the Observer magazine, published yesterday he said: ‘To be faith-literate is crucial in a globalised world, I believe.

‘I read the Qur’an [Koran] every day. Partly to understand some of the things happening in the world, but mainly just because it is immensely instructive.’

Mr Blair has previously praised the Muslim faith as ‘beautiful’ and said the Prophet Mohammed had been ‘an enormously civilizing force’.

In 2006 he said the Koran was a ‘reforming book, it is inclusive. It extols science and knowledge and abhors superstition. It is practical and way ahead of its time in attitudes to marriage, women and governance’.

If you want to understand Islam, it is as simple as this; it is evil, pure evil.

I have looked at a Koran in a bookstore. The first page was about a spider in a web. It was dark, dpressing and gloomy. It was obscure and makes little sense.

When you look at a Bible you get hit over the head with its simple, clear, straight power and force. It is not about being beautiful. It is about horrible judgements and power, yet salvation and peace for those who follow.

The two books have no comparison at all. The Bible is an invitation whereas the Koran is a temptation.

The further you delve into the Koran, the more lost you will get in the tangle of the web. Eventually the spider, Islam, will suck the life from you and kill you.

That is the message of Islam, it is another tree good for food yet which the rightous are forbidden to eat thereof. If you do it anyway, you will be cast out and condemned.

Tony Blair is offeirng the bitter fruit of Islam to those who admire him. I am not and admirer but a scoffer of his enlightened ways.

That makes sense, he is the middle east envoy after all and deals with multi faith issues all the time. He probably reads the Torah sometimes too.

But then if you read the Daily Mail I can understand why that probably freaks you out a bit, that paper has an agenda and you are happily dancing to its tune.

@ Anonymous Coward *2002, both books are similar actually.

The bible has quotes about dashing your children against rocks, punishing rape victims with death etc.

You'll find archaic stuff like this in both the books. Backward people will focus on the dark stuff (anti gay, misogynistic that sort of thing) which is prevalent in both texts and progressive people will focus on the good stuff - forgiveness, not judging, clean living etc - also in both.

I'm guessing you've never properly read either hence your ignorance.

That said I can't stand Tony Blar but that is more about his one world order globalist agenda and the war.

You're speaking of the Old Testament. Generally, Christians don't focus much on the OT, only the New Testament.

The Qur'an, on the other hand, was put together from various verses and sayings from Muhammed's companions 100 years after Muhammed's death. It is not perfect and full of contradictories. Tony Blair is talking out of his ass.

In my experience Most muslims only focus on the compasionate parts as do most Christians. Many Christians still focus on the old testament hence the anti gay agenda for instance. This isn't mentioned in the new testament.

But then I suppose it depends which news network you subscribe to.
