Jushua (OP) User ID: 1298063 Netherlands 06/16/2011 04:50 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | SYDNEY, June 16 -- An earthquake measuring 6.6 on the Richter scale jolted New Britain region, Papua New Guinea at 0003 GMT on Thursday, the U.S. Geological Survey said, but no tsunami warning was issued. The epicenter, with a depth of 21.50 km, was initially determined to be at 5.9944 degrees south latitude and 151.0950 degrees east longitude. After seeing what happened in Chile and the Eretrian/Ethopian border over the last week, could this be another volcano waking up? Does anyone know if there is one in that immediate area? Just watching, as always, and wondering? stay safe I started this thread about an hour ago. Thanks for more information. The new britain region has been having medium to medium large quakes for the last month or so, I've noticed. But never 8 (well 7 if you say the first was a double) in 7 hours! All we can do is keep watching and see if it continues, or if it quietens down. With the Chile and Etheopian volcanos in the southern hemisphere over the last week or so, it's been a scary week. Maybe it's not over yet? Always just watching, wondering ; ) stay safe. |
