No controversy? Are you insane, or misinformed? Darwinian style evolutionary theory is totally unworkable, just ask Crick, discoverer of DNA, and other real scientist. The mechanics of the origin of life are not as simple as Darwin's theory claims. You have to remember that Darwin, and most 19th Century biologist, thought that cells were undifferentiated masses of protoplasm. Many of these also still believed that the origin of these cell could have been through Spontaneous Generation

Is this your version of the "No True Scottsman?" That any "Real" scientist disagrees with the modern synthesis, thus any scientist with a solid background in paleontology, microbiology, genetics, cell biology, epigenetics, embryology, etc., etc., who agrees with the modern synthesis is not a "Real" scientist?

It may have escaped your notice but Charles Darwin died many years ago. Assuming the evolutionary theory stopped with him is like assuming physics stopped with Sir Isaac Newton.

Perhaps you think we are still stuck with Lord Kelvin, estimating the life of the Sun entirely by the residual heat of gravitational collapse? Perhaps you believe we are back with the "Shrinking Earth," before plate tectonics became accepted?

Science moves ahead. With lots of heat and sparks, certainly, and with a lot of fumbles and mistakes at the front lines. But that's how it moves. Natural Selection -- the core of Darwin's contribution -- is understood to be subtler than Darwin understood at the time, and not the only force leading to evolution of species (not that Darwin claimed it was). And it has been tested, thoroughly and painfully, to the extent that it would be more believable that the scientific community was wrong about planetary motion or valence electrons.
