Atheists - How do you explain the existence of existence? | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1426134 ![]() 06/23/2011 07:40 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | If you believe in God, then you must answer this question: How did God come into existence? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1437304If you say "God always existed", then you are willing to accept that there is no beginning of God, and it shouldn't be any problem to accept that it is possible that matter/energy always existed, without a beginning. And if you don't believe that "God always existed", you have to explain how God was created, which could be quite difficult if you believe that God created everything. Your question really doesn't pose much of a problem for an atheist. We're willing to accept that we don't know all of the answers. For all I know, there was once a God that created the universe, and then disappeared. I prefer to focus on the present. Is there any evidence of God right now? I don't see any. There is an intelligent response... +1 for you. Awesome answer. |

It is something that can never be personally experienced, so the only belief structure can come from another source, i.e. religion, speculative science, etc. It doesnt really matter unless you are trying to prove something else, (existance of God, afterlife, non-existance of God, etc). It is natural to ask why, but when the answer is unavailable and not demonstrable, then it becomes a pointless question. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1440183 ![]() 06/23/2011 07:53 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | One of the big problems with this kind of question is that terms are undefined. People make assumptions about what words like "God" mean. To any person who believes in one of the Christian Gods, a person who does not share that belief is an "atheist". Just because someone does not share another persons belief in a deity, does not make them qualified to explain existence. Just because someone does believe in a deity also does not make them qualified to explain existence. Most theistic believers make claims about their particular God, but do not bother to perform all the mental experiments required to deduce a comprehensive cosmology from it. What is observable must fit in with a comprehensive cosmological model. So if someone wants to make claims for a deity, they have to be able to explain all current and future observations of reality in terms of that deity. In some ways accepting a religious explanation is a cop out for lazy people. |

One thing I know for sure. Atheists are OK with the fact that we don't know everything and don't need to make up some unproven supernatural magical to explain it. Also, there is no fucking way any religion can prove itself to be true. All religions claim they talk their god, pray and get their prayers answered, miracles, etc. All religions that I have studied in depth can be observed historically to see exactly how they came about and evolved. Religions are man-made to comfort people of death and all of their lives problems by giving them impossible to prove absolutes so people don't have to think and live their simple happy life with the authorities they crave because they are child-minded. |
