how do you fix something that is broken from another structure that gets broken by it? you cant.
the idea that there will be the technology to solve this problem defies rational scientific thinking.

one small reactor that is on line, every four hours produces the same amount of radiation as that of hiroshima bomb. and fuku are some of the world largest (got that off physics forum)

FUKUSHIMA - It's not too late to escape this sweltering heat and plan a skiing holiday to Japan with Nekoma Ski Resort in the Bandai region of Fukushima still in operation till next month. But more on that as soon as we get the elephant out of the room.

Japan's third largest prefecture, Fukushima has been on the receiving end of a fair bit of negative press after the March 2011 Tohoku earthquake resulted in a nuclear fallout. The "F" has since spooked visitors with every picture published making it look like a ghost town straight out of The Walking Dead; and fear of radiation has not only kept tourist away from the affected areas but also Japan in general.

Junichi Sato[....] had a list of reassuring figures on hand to set everybody's mind at ease about radiation levels there. According to Mr Sato, at ALTS it ranges from 0.02-0.04 µSv/hr - way below Japan's Ministry of Environment safety level of 0.23 µSv/hr - and even lower than Tokyo's reading of 0.048 µSv/hr.

To put those numbers into perspective, a booklet published by Japan Tourism Agency states the world average - based on results recorded in major cities around the world like London, New York, Hong Kong, Beijing and Seoul - is 0.099 µSv/hr.

It also states that scientifically, a dose of 0.06 µSv/hr would be metabolised by the body's internal organs and excreted as waste products instead of building up.

In short, tourists are unlikely to return home and find themselves suddenly with X-Men superpowers after a holiday in Japan. And truth be told, the air in Bandai is cooler and crisper than Singapore on any given day.

French activists protest on nuclear fuel to Japan

Dozens of French activists have staged a protest ahead of a nuclear fuel shipment to Japan.

The shipping was halted after the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear accident forced most of Japan's nuclear plants to shutdown.

About 50 activists gathered at the northwestern port of Cherbourg on Monday.

A French energy firm has been producing the MOX fuel, a mixture of plutonium and uranium. The Kansai Electric Power Company ordered it for use at its Takahama nuclear plant in Fukui Prefecture, Central Japan, which is currently off-line.

A cargo ship loaded with the fuel is scheduled to leave the port as early as Wednesday.

Osaka court rejects demand to halt nuclear reactor

A Japanese court has rejected a suit by local residents demanding 2 nuclear power reactors in central Japan be turned off. The court said the reactors are safe.

The No. 3 and 4 reactors at the Ohi nuclear power plant in Fukui Prefecture are the only 2 online in Japan following the 2011 Fukushima nuclear disaster.

Operator Kansai Electric Power Company turned the reactors back on in August last year after government tests deemed them safe.

But 262 residents of Fukui Prefecture and nearby areas filed a suit demanding a court injunction to turn them off, saying they could cause a serious accident.

The plaintiffs said control rods to halt operations would not go into the reactors in time in a strong earthquake simultaneously involving 3 active faults in the region.

TEPCO moves irradiated water to ground tanks

The operator of the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant has begun moving contaminated water from leaking underground storage pools to tanks above ground.

Tokyo Electric Power Company, or TEPCO, plans to move most of the contaminated water to tanks above ground after a series of leaks were found in some of the 7 underground storage pools.

On Tuesday, TEPCO began transferring about 20 tons of water per hour from the No. 2 pool to a tank more than 400 meters to the southeast. The No. 2 pool is the first of those where leaks were found.

More than 23,000 tons of contaminated water is scheduled to be transferred by early June.

Jail sentence for falsification

An American court has sentenced a former engineering safety manager to 78 months in prison for falsifying information about injuries at three nuclear power plant sites.

Walter Cardin was convicted by a federal grand jury of eight counts of major fraud against the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), a US government corporation, November 2012. The offences were committed over a period from 2004 to 2006. Cardin was convicted of providing false information by under-reporting the number of injuries and their severities.

Two US Nuke Plants Tighten Security After Boston Bombings

Nuclear power plants in Massachusetts and New Hampshire have increased security after two bombs exploded in Boston on Monday, killing at least two people and injuring dozens. The Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station in Plymouth, Massachusetts, and the Seabrook Station in Seabrook, New Hampshire, heightened checks of vehicles, materials and individuals entering the plants.

Bulgarian nuclear plant shuts down reactor
