Civil war at NRC

The letter from Democratic Commissioners William Magwood and George Apostolakis and Republicans Kristine Svinicki and William Ostendorff says Jaczko "intimidated and bullied" staff, told staff to withhold information and ignored the views of the other members of the five-person commission.

In turn, Rep. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) released a report late Friday -- originally set for a rollout Monday -- charging that those four commissioners had "conspired to delay and weaken nuclear reactor safety" after Japan's Fukushima disaster in March, including by resisting Jaczko's efforts to implement new safeguards.

Post-Fukushima radioactivity levels in ocean, its impact assessed

While concentrations of some radionuclides continued to decrease, by July they were still 10,000 times higher than levels measured in 2010 off the coast of Japan.

This indicates that the plants “remain a significant source of contamination to the coastal waters off Japan,” the researchers report.

“There is currently no data that allow us to distinguish between several possible sources of continued releases,” said Buessler.

Meiji Co. was tipped off on three separate occasions in mid-November that its milk formula may be contaminated with radioactive cesium, but ignored the information for about two weeks, sources said.

The major food maker only looked into the matter after it was approached by Kyodo News and a citizens' group earlier this month, the sources said.

Fukushima residents exposed to high doses of radiation

A Fukushima prefectural government survey on residents' external radiation exposure showed those in government-set evacuation zones were likely exposed to annualized radiation doses of up to 14 millisieverts, government sources said Friday.

This is the first statistical data indicating external radiation exposure among people living around the crippled Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant.

The prefectural government sent questionnaires to about 29,000 residents from Iitatemura, Namiemachi and the Yamakiya area in Kawamatamachi, which are designated as in either a no-entry zone or expanded evacuation zone, between late June and mid-July, ahead of those in other areas. The survey covered the four months after the crisis began.

United States to seek greater clarity on nuclear liability law

U.S. companies, promised contracts for 10,000 MWe of nuclear energy, have felt stymied by the Indian liability law that holds suppliers culpable in the event of a nuclear accident. French and Russian-origin companies, which have also been asked to set up civil nuclear plants in India, have a similar grievance and are also eager to seek clarity on the guidelines of the Bill.

India says it is bound by the domestic law and has bridled at the suggestion of getting the legislation examined by the International Atomic Energy Agency for compatibility with an international law.

Full decontamination to start in Fukushima in March
Japan's Environment Ministry says it will delay the start of full decontamination work for no-entry zones and government-designated evacuation zones in Fukushima Prefecture until late March.

A law taking effect next month requires the state to decontaminate areas with high radiation levels. The restricted areas were designated after the March accident at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant. The government is now conducting a model project to seek effective ways to clean up the contaminated areas.

The December 9 Issue of Weekly Post reported that the control system at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station was cyber-attacked. However, such facts have not been confirmed. The control system owned by TEPCO is not configured to have cyber attacks.

I, also, don't understand the cyber attack theory....

We have plenty of video and photographic footage showing the EQ and subsequent tsunami hitting Dai-ichi in March... I'm not sure how having a cyber-attack could have made the situation any worse after what they went through in those first few hours.

The theory goes that the Israeli government didn't like the idea that the spent and enriched fuels were to go to Iran to help them build their nuclear reactor (weapons), so they installed nuclear bombs that were supposed to be cameras within the reactor.

Given a tsunami, after an earthquake, one wonders why this would be necessary. I think the natural events were enough to create this catastrophy no?

I'm wondering, however, how the government intents to "clean up" the environment, as it has never been done in history, given the size and deadliness of the particles. Chernobyle is the precedent.

I shudder to think of sending families back to a poisoned place simply to save face.

Would it not be best to simply accept the fact that the land is gone, and to relocate families and businesses permantently and learn, for all humanity, the serious madness of nuclear power? Fukushima then, would indeed be the serious tomb left for centuries as a reminder that it was never a good idea.

It is nice to see that people are finally accepting this as fact rather than blatent and angry denial... i suppose this was always going to be the case until acceptance kicked in.... aka atom boy, and various other JP AC's, that were in serious denial..... i have been correct all along....

"Weekly Post" reported in Japanese a story from a Web Programmer who claimed to be the Administrator of the PC System in Fukushima, he claimed that he was flown in by the Japanese SDF in a Helicopter on the second day because of a Computer System Failure, a "possible Stuxnet Attack" which prevent a restart of div. Programs!

"Weekly Post" is like the "Daily Mail" or other Gossip Magazines with nude Girls and Hentai,
afair Fukushima Diary copied and translated (Wrong?) and Enenews just copied without a further Research!

The Stuxnet Attack had no relationship with the Accident itself, just like a "tiny Special"!

But for a better understanding 0f Stuxnet you need to use Scroogle!

And yes, we are ok and well!
We hope that the situation will stay like at the moment!

- Tepco assumes, huh?

Study Shows Worse Picture of Meltdown in Japan

[link to www.nytimes.com]

Because the simulation suggests that heat released as a result of radioactive decay “far overwhelmed” the effect of the cooling water, he said, and because temperatures in the inner pressure vessel that originally housed the fuel are thought to have dropped quickly, Tepco now assumes that “100 percent of the fuel at Unit 1 has slumped” into the outer primary containment vessel.

In addition, the simulation suggests that the fuel bored more than two feet into the concrete, Mr. Matsumoto said.

At Units 2 and 3, the initial cooling efforts were more successful, he said, and a smaller amount of fuel is thought to have escaped the pressure vessels and into the primary containment vessels.

The reason I think this is planned construction is because the missing parts are so cleanly gone, no jagged edges. My construction eyes say clean cut rather than collapse.

Thanks for all the updates guys and gals! This video is from Dec. 9-

However on Dec. 6 you can see two small cranes--I can't tell if it's planned demolition or a clean-up operation.

Sorry, photo not approved yet.
