Fukushima schools see 70% drop in new pupils
New enrollment at schools affected by the Fukushima nuclear disaster has dropped nearly 70 percent.

54 public elementary and junior high schools in the prefecture were forced to shut down or relocate after the nuclear plant accident in March last year.

12 of the schools remain closed for the school year that began on April 1st. The other 42 are holding classes in rented space, and welcomed 763 new students this year. The figure is down almost 70 percent from 2010.
