Former Fukushima Daiichi chief hospitalized
The former head of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, Masao Yoshida, has had surgery for a brain hemorrhage.

Tokyo Electric Power Company announced on Monday Yoshida underwent the emergency surgery on Thursday.

It says he was in public when the malady struck. Yoshida is presently conscious and his life is not at risk, though he remains in serious condition.

Yoshida led efforts by the plant workers to bring the reactors under control following the nuclear meltdown in March last year. He left his post in December to receive treatment for esophageal cancer.
